Everytime i go to the post office these days, the couterstaff reel off a list of services that i shouldn't attempt to live without, apparently. They ask if i want insurance,do i need a mobile phone top up,what about changing to a post office landline. No thanks to all of the above-if i change my mind i'll let you know.I only wish they'd have asked if i needed any stamps, because i did and i came out without any!that reminds me,i wanted to send an envelope with some family photos for my brother to add to ancestry.Duly weighed the charge was 90p,that would get them there in a couple of days i was told or i could have guaranteed next day delivery for £5.Blimey,i could have taken them there myself for less than that.So i paid the 90p,and they got there the next day anyway.

I think we will/would be lost without them though.  Their turnover is not great for the service the provide really.

I agree Blue :-) I realise postal rates have gone up quite a lot but for most items sent through the post it would cost far more if you had to deliver it yourself. I have a friend in Canada and their postal service isn't a patch on the one we have here and most other countries also seem to lack the service received in the UK.

Have to admit that the postal service in the UK far outperforms the service I have had here in Australia. It can sometimes take up to 4 days to send something to my parents who live three hours away (not in a remote area) and if I want to send it express it costs at least $5 ($1.20 2-4days). Then you have the nightmare of stuff going missing which never happened to me in the UK and I was posting a lot of stuff for ebay sales etc etc.

I agree that the 'upselling' is very annoying... but upselling in general is annoying "would you like fries with that?"- I blame the Americans :-P (jk)

So true, and that goes for a lot of things, from corner shops to district nurses.
