With all this rain about recently, some may not of had it but its getting silly through our entrance of our house.
We have 2 runner mats which are Turtle Mats, i always thought that they were great but the dogs walk over both the long runners, come off it and then leave wet paw prints all over the floor.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has found any form of mats which are better than the turtle mats.
Links and recommendations would be really useful.
The thing is these turtle mats were over £50 each so it wasn't cheap to put them down, all the same i'm hopinh for a miracle here me thinks.

Over to you guys. x

I don't have a dog but i do have kids with muddy wet feet !  So i buy those washable mats from Tesco and Dunelm Mill .  They only cost a few quid and i can get 2 in the machine at once .   I wash them last thing at night then put them over the radiator and they are ready to go in the morning ( or over the line if we get any Summer !) .  I have a couple of spare so that i can have a set down and a set  in the wash .

Totally agree with St Domingo and the washable mats.  I got a couple from Asda but Dunelm have some really nice long mats that would fit perfectly in my utility room.

We have turtle mats tooo but I find them pretty ineffective against big, muddy paws in wet weather.  I use a couple of big bits of non-slip vet bed by the doors instead.

I'm waiting for a delivery today from Splendid Pets -they are the ones that advertise dirt trapper mats on the back of Dog World. (Note you can only get their special offers by phoning them as they are not listed on the website.) I have ordered ten 5'x3' non slip mats (£50) that can be machine washed, used in kennels etc -I'm planning to use two indoors and the rest in my cattery. Don't know yet of course how well it will work but thought the price was very good considering the size.

Its not just the floor its the walls as well. maybe I should wallpaper the walls in removeable turtle mats !

Marianne if you could let us know how you get on with those it would be awesome as that is a great price.

As for using vet bed as mats, that is a b****y good idea, may have to do that if Marianne is unsuccessful against large wet muddy paws.

Oh and yes that would be amazinf tutrle mats on the walls, maybe get some very strong velcro and give it a go?

We have clear perspex on the walls by the back door, easy to wipe down and keeps the wallpaper intact from puppy teeth and claws.

I use old offcuts and then throw them away at the end of the winter.

Seriously when we did the kitchen tiling I measured the height of gsd and then tiled to that height plus a row. Works a treat but doesnt look so good in the hall doesn't give the same welcoming effect I wanted lol

I have lots of very hairy feet (Cavs) coming and going and I have a turtle mat followed by a large bath towel. It works really well especially if you teach them to linger on the towel for a treat. The amount of muck on the towel is astonishing.

Okay mat update! The plus points are that yes, they DO work -no more muddy pawprints on the floor as (so far at least) it has stuck to the mat. They lay very well and don't ruck up and don't move when vacuumed over either. Obviously I haven't washed one yet as I only got them yesterday but I'd imagine you can only fit one in the washer at a time.

The minus points are minor but worth mentioning. As I got the "Kennel Mats" these are sometimes marked (hence the lower price), which in reality meant that most of them (bot not all, some were perfect) had a triangle or two cut off the rubber edge. Doesn't matter in the cattery, but I picked out the perfect ones for the house. The postage was stated as £8.50 for up to 30 kg so naturally I assumed 10 mats would not weigh over 30 kgs -well they did so the postage was double. Also the size is given as 5' x 3' but my pedantic husband went and measured and found they were a couple of inches short. (Not that it bothers me!) Finally I have no carpets in the house as we have so many animals but this was like putting a small carpet down so it quickly got covered in hairs, which meant that when I vacuumed it took a bit more effort than normal - I have plastic floors and hairs go up so easily normally as they don't stick to anything. But really having to vacuum a 5' x 3' piece isn't much to moan about.

Overall, I'm happy as they do what they are meant to. I don't know how long the offer of 10 of these for £50 plus postage is on for but like I say it's not on the website and you'd have to phone Splendid Pets.

My wife and I  have been using dirt trapper type door mats for years! We have 2 springers at the moment and these door mats are marvelous. Turtle mat has been the latest make we have tried. They are expensive and there are other makes which are cheaper but it does come down to quality and they will last for years. Try http://www.doormatsonline.co.uk they had everything. x
