I don't know where you are or how old you are, but you may be eligible for funding through business start up packages. If you contact your local Enterprise Trust/Chamber of Commerce/Business Link they will be able to tell you whether there are any grants available to help you with buying equipment, training courses aimed at new businesses and other useful support.

I would suggest that you take a grooming course at a grooming school and learn to trim to the breed standards before starting up on your own.  In my experience, and I'm sure that others may feel different ;), is the only way to make a reliable, long term business with a good regular income. :)

And you need good quality equipment if you are going to do a good quality of work. :)

You will find all you need here

Christies do a start up package that has all the basic things you need . Look on ebay for things like second hand dog baths but do not buy second hand clippers as you really need to have a good quality pair. Also invest in good quality scissors as they will give you a better result than cheap ones.

All my customers ,the canine ones!, all leave my salon with a little bow on just to give that special touch. Also try and get the owners to book in advance for their next appointment and you could make up some leaflets explaining how to groom their dog properly at home as it will hopefully make your job a bit easier when they come to you for their appointments. I do this, it doesnt work all the time but its helpfull .

good luck with your new venture you will love it.
