Right, i should know the name of this after so many years of having dogs but i have always called it "the stopper"  (as in the stopper you get on roller boots) as i call a tail a "stalk" and paws "hoofs"
just silly names for things really.
but anyway my question is, what is he correct name for a "stopper" the back bit of paw on its back pastern?

Yes I know which bit you mean - the little pad type knobbly bit that I poke often (if in doubt poke it is my motto).  No idea what it's called though.  If it looks like a knobbly bit, feels like a knobbly bit and acts like a knobbly bit then it is a knobbly bit :-)

If you mean the pad that sticks out at the back of the wrist (higher up the wrist than the dew claw) on the front legs, it's called the 'stop pad'. :-)
