Right, i should know the name of this after so many years of having dogs but i have always called it "the stopper"  (as in the stopper you get on roller boots) as i call a tail a "stalk" and paws "hoofs"
just silly names for things really.
but anyway my question is, what is he correct name for a "stopper" the back bit of paw on its back pastern?

DO YOU KNOW THE BIT I MEAN THOUGH?
sorrry caps

the bit if they put on the breaks the pad bit is there? not the bone, the pad bit?

Yes I know which bit you mean - the little pad type knobbly bit that I poke often (if in doubt poke it is my motto).  No idea what it's called though.  If it looks like a knobbly bit, feels like a knobbly bit and acts like a knobbly bit then it is a knobbly bit :-)

If you mean the pad that sticks out at the back of the wrist (higher up the wrist than the dew claw) on the front legs, it's called the 'stop pad'. :-)

Indeed we do Newfiedreams!

And as I'm in a daft & obscure mood as it's Friday, can anyone name the song by a not very well know band (they had a hit with 'mmmmmm') which contains the word 'phalanges' in the lyrics?

Claire :-D
