Its a name at the front of a kc registered puppy that can be used to identify a particular breeder.

My affix is Flutterbye so all my puppies name will start with Flutterbye and they can all be traced back to me. My affix is personal to me and provided I pay the maintenance fees every year it cannot be issued to any other breeder.

Hope this helps,

Fiona

It is like a surname. You pay a maintenance fee once the affix has been granted, and in theoiry that word can only be used by you in the naming of puppies! It is called and affix because in the past it was affixed at the end of the dogs name, like Andy Pandy of TOYTOWN.

Now the KC has decreed that and affix (more properly a prefix) has to be used at the start of the name. so you could have TOYTOWN Andy Pandy!

In the main breeders that are serious have an affix, so that the puppies they breed can be easily identified as being bred by them. Though some famous breeders never have an affix, but name to a theme, or the same letters etc.

Most puppy farmers do not bother with an affix, pups have nothing to link them together with the breeder, except KC records!.

This only applies to dogs registered in the UK - other countries have different rules and when once a dog is names that is it! no changes or additions permitted.

If a dog's name begins with "Ken" ie Kenwu, Kenex. Kenyee, Kenzed, Kenmillen, Kenmillone, Kenmillto etc etc these are not affixes. They are used by the Kennel Club when alternatives are not given by the breeders or the breeders deliberately fill the forms in incorrectly in the hope of getting what sounds like an affix.

And to add insult to injury with the recent increase in affix yearly prices they wrote to me TWICE to tell me about it
