
It is like a surname. You pay a maintenance fee once the affix has been granted, and in theoiry that word can only be used by you in the naming of puppies! It is called and affix because in the past it was affixed at the end of the dogs name, like Andy Pandy of TOYTOWN.
Now the KC has decreed that and affix (more properly a prefix) has to be used at the start of the name. so you could have TOYTOWN Andy Pandy!
In the main breeders that are serious have an affix, so that the puppies they breed can be easily identified as being bred by them. Though some famous breeders never have an affix, but name to a theme, or the same letters etc.
Most puppy farmers do not bother with an affix, pups have nothing to link them together with the breeder, except KC records!.
