Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything that i can put on my 2 year old sbt.  She seems to have really fine hair on her belly under her legs and under her neck almost like she is going bald, i am looking for something to encourage thicker hair?  she has been to the vets and have done a skin scrap and found nothing.  She is spayed so can't see it being hormonal, i am at a loss!.

Many Thanks

Angela.

In some short-haired breeds speying can have this effect occasionally ;)  If she's otherwise well and active, you could try adding a little sunflower oil to her food - about a tsp daily may help.

Highly recommend Dorwest Herbs Evening primrose oil or (If its not heat related) Kelp or even better the Malted Kelp tablets (not coated so can be crumbled into food)
HTH :)

Have they tried blood testing for thyroid problems?
As hypothyroidism can cause baldness.

If it's proven that it's not the problem then try vitamin b complex tablets.

Could be my ignorance here? and just wanting to 'up-date' myself (Hypothyroidism being something to watch in Sibes)
I'd always thought hair loss (in the main) would be Lumbar region? (Hence the 'rat tail' term) and that age range would be from 4 years upward?
Just wondering what aside led you to call for T4/3 Boxacrazy?
Cheers.

I have two down with hypo-t.

The first was very early to get hypo-t and the only bald patch initially was a 50P size on her hock.
She was 17 months when I first noticed any symptoms (although not aware at the time) and diagnosed at 22 months old.
Because it wasn't diagnosed quickly it did affect her heart which did enlarge etc

The other was 8 yo before being diagnosed.
So it can be a wide range in ages and a wide range of symptoms or very few.
Just thought it was worth mentioning as another to rule out.

Although some breeds such as Boxers can also suffer with seasonal alopecia too.

Thanks Boxa!

Of course! (hope you didnt think I was calling you into question) As its a condition that can appear in my breed I like to top up my knowledge levels where I can! so picking your brain was definately worth it regards the young diagnosis, something to bear in mind.
Thanks :)
