I am thinking of getting a poodle puppy ( my daughter has asthma) .I am currently testing her with a friends poodle and so far so good! We had decided on the standard as they were known to be good with kids but someone told me recently that the smaller the dog the less dander which kind of makes sense. What i need to know is are the minitures any good with kiddies .I had a toy poodle years ago but she hated kids and coulnt be trusted with them even though no child had ever scared her or been cruel to her.I'd also like to hear from people with asthma who own a poodle and also of any litters due to go to new homes by the end of this year.We live in the north east of scotland.Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi mandy both my husband and my son suffer asthma , and my hubby is seriuosly affected by dogs, but we have had tara our standard poodle for twelve years and he has never been affected by her ,she is a lovely dog all round ,brilliant with kids, and generally well behaved, i will definatly have another one in the future, good luck with your new pup
I work in an asthma clinic. Not all asthmatics have a reaction to any dogs...it is possible to test for dog allergy at your local clinic. If it turns out she is not allergic, you could have a wider choice. Ive never had a toy poodle, but we had a standard poodle who was fab with kids! :)

Poodles are very good for asthmatics as their hair grows continuously and doesn't shed. Thus I wouldn't worry about the size.
Here are web pages on Miniatures and Standards.
