Hi, I am sure I already know the answer to this, just looking for assurance! My eighteen month old bitch is on day 4 of her heat, my boy is just 6 months old and at the moment is showing no interest in her. I do not want to breed them, therefore my question is, do I need to seperate them? I have been told he is far too young and therefore at this age won't be interested, but I suspect differently and am inclined to have them seperated. She can go and stay with my sister, who also has her sister they get on very well. Your thoughts please?? Thank you...

Hi...yes, separate them! He is more than capable of siring a litter at this age, some dogs like to start young.......LOL I would send her to your sisters asap, that way he won't start pestering your female & generally making a nuisance of himself. I would leave her until she is finished at least a week afterwards, then give her a bath before bringing home again. Good luck.

Thank you, you have reassured me! Just a shame to see her go over christmas. x
definitly. we thought my dog never bothered me bitch so waited a few days till we sent him away to my friends. 4 weeks later to find out she is pregnant.

Eventually you will be able to mark a calender when she is due for seasons so can send her before your boy gets too stressed out (unless you are neutering).
