I have been going on a lovely walk in a village round the back of me since friends have moved there.
The one thing that i have noticed is the amount of dog poo being left on the path side. Its almost like it ifs not all on the actual path it can be left which is further from the truth.
I walked there with a friend today, at one point she was in a world of her own and she didn't realise one of her dogs had poohed. I picked it up and she thought that my dog had done it. She is not irresponsible in any way and hates seeing dog poo left on the streets, just at that one point her mind was away with the fairies.
Though i can't say that would be the same for all the amount of poo left behind.
Earlier on i went to the beach, i could see a dog on the beach with owner, dog squatted, i was too far away to see what it excreted, but then saw the owner kick pebbles of the said area, that said to me dog poo.. As i said i was too far away to say anything at the time. They are trying to ban dogs from all beaches and the prom due to the mess, and i have to say that its got worse since the summer. Mind boggles, you would of thought with this potential banning order people would be even more vigilant.
Forgot to say when i got back home from the village the soles of my boots were caked in dog poo. Just had to shower them clean and ended up with poo all over my hands. It is disgusting.
I have as it stands reported the dog fouling in the village

Couldn't agree more nothing is more disgusting than ending up with it on your shoes. It really annoys me when we are out walking to see poo left on the verges parks etc. Being the owner of 4 dogs you can see people looking at you as if it must be yours, no this is why every coat I own seems to have the pockets stuffed with poos bags ready for picking up.

The OH is always saying to me "do you keep anything in your pockets other than poop bags and dog treats" Every pocket I have has wee green bags stuffed in them. The dog car is busrting at the seams with them too. I've been known to walk over to folk and politely hand poop bags to them when they were blatantly going to walk away and leave it, its amusing watching them squirm when they realise they have been caught out. Poop Patrol!! I don't want my wee dogs negotiating realtively sized rhino deposits in the park!

Just so you don't have to produce dog poo bags from your pockets/handbag, you might do as i do. I carry my poop bags, dog toy and treats in a mini bum bag which i hang up by the lead. Every time i take the dog, I pick up that bag and pop it on. Much easier!

This really annoys me as well. I'm always dodging poo on the footpath when walking my guys and I feel like someone's going to have a go at me about it. One time I saw a young Mum inadvertently push her pram through a pile, uugh, it's so un-hygenic. Can you imagine what these peoples gardens must be like. I have 5 dogs and have no problem picking up after them at home or on the street. There are plenty of signs up saying there is a £1000 fine but I've never seen anyone out to inforce it.

I think thats the problem, the council won't employ more dog wardens, can say that now due to the credit crunch. I feel that it will get like in America where they have designated dog parks when have wardens on site while they are open to make sure all rules and laws are being adhered to.
If there is no one around to enforce this then how are you going to make people pick up poo after them, generally you don't see if occurring to stop these people are like the OP said hand them a poo bag.

I absolutely hate it too :( One of the worst places here is past the local kiddy play park

it's like tango alley

there is a red dog bin there too but plenty of people don't bother :( There's a local person with a BIG dog who doesn't pick up - the deposits are HUGE!! I've yet to catch them but they'll be given some of my poo bags and hopefully that'll shame them ;)
There was woman with a Staffy used to let it poo outside our house every day - until I popped out the front one day with a large poo bag and said "Isn't it awful when you get caught out? Have one of these" and then stood waiting while she picked up - her face was a picture!
Can't understand it myself, it's the best way to keep your hands warm in winter :-D :-D
> Can't understand it myself, it's the best way to keep your hands warm in winter
Ha Ha
Thats what a wagon driver did the other day when I was picking up after Sengi
slowed down hung out of his cab and shouted " thats big enough to keep your hands warm all day love "
I sniggered all the way home.

ha ha! :-)

I have had a rotten virus and have been confined to barracks for 10 days!!
Yesterday I felt up to taking my boys out for a short walk and some fresh air. I ended coming home because the field was covered in Poo,( my Pointer still thinks it is fun to roll in it). I had cleaned up after both my boys then ended up with some one else dogs poo on my dog all over my legs and on my boots... So I ended up sticking on a wash and bathing a dog, I was so annoyed and knackered ;-(

I had such a dirty look from this young fellow the other day when he stepped in somebody elses' dog poo. He looked at me as if it was my fault. I felt so angry with that lazy person who had left it there.
> Can't understand it myself, it's the best way to keep your hands warm in winter :-D :-D
And so much easier to find while still steaming :-D
Same in our village, not so bad on the verges, but when you get on the public footpaths its disgusting, like you all I have poo bags all over the place, even find them in the washing machine, clean ones of course that have got left in my pockets.A minority of people give a dog a bad name .

Oh yes!
Very handy with the one that likes to do 'Twirlies' in the longer grass then run off before I can get there

I say stay and she stays - about 20 ft away :( anyone would think it was nuclear waste

i agree, the amount around is horrible. however, i am annoyed at the lack of poo bins! went a walk through a well known local beauty spot, a forest last week. picked up my boys poo at start aof walk, and 1 1/2 hours later back at car pack was still carrying the poo bag!! the only people i met walking round were dog walkers, so its a well walked area. also, i walk along the canal at weekends, and again, no poo bins the entire length i walk along, its very annoying, the amount of times ive had to carry it all the way home!
picked up my boys poo at start of walk, and 1 1/2 hours later back at car pack was still carrying the poo bag!!
We have a forest local to us and I did the same, however there was a sign to say that as it is countryside there are no poo bins and to kick poo to side of footpath.

We have an old girl around here who is always offering people poo bags. I always flash mine at her as I pass her. I can not swear to actually seeing her with a dog though ;-)

hmmmm should have done that, if i had known there were none i probably would have.

We visited an area that had lots of signs and dog bins. As you got out into the woods there was another notice saying something like "foxes do it, rabbits do it now so can your dog" or something like that.. I find it quite odd that people pick up the dog poo then tie it to a tree in a plastic sack, baffles me a bit. I too have had the pleasure of carrying a bag for a long way between bins mmm mmm what joy ;-)
> anyone would think it was nuclear waste
I have one like that, "Mr My Poo Don't Stink" won't go in the garden if the others have been there ;-)
Ha Ha I say the same and you definately know its your dogs cause its still toasty warm...
Yes we are the same and ours tend to pooh on the first 100 years, so I bag it and leave it and pick it up on the way back to the car. Worse thing is when you forget to take it our of the car and some days later find it again.........

Me too! This is very odd!! My brother's OH had picked up after their staffie & for some unbeknown reason was swinging the bag around, she hadn't tied it properley & ended upwith pooh on her head!!!! She's now known as 'pooh bag head'. LOL
Me & OH always have pooh bags in your coat pockets, we were at a gig last night & found he had one in his coat pocked, one in his jeans pocket & I had one in either pocket - 4 bags, no dog or pooh to be found! That's preparation for you!

Its horrible isn't it - I had a rant about this the other day, we have lots of people driving down to walk their dogs by where we live and there's a little path that leads into a field - people always let their dogs foul in the middle of the path and dont bother to pick it up. 2 of our neighbours have to walk down this path every day to get to their houses as it is the only means of access, and they are sick to death of treading in it! There are only a few houses at the end of our road and we are the only ones with dogs, so Im always worried that people are going to think it's my two. People that don't pick up give all other owners a bad name
Suejaw, when you reported the fouling, who did you report it to and what sort of a response did you get ?? I think it would be a good idea to get a bin put near the path near our house, but I dont know how I would go about this.

i totally agree with all of you it doesnt take a minute to pick up what your dog leaves behind. where i live there is 2 grass fields directly behind my house used to be childs play area. my son in the summer was playing round there and came home on several occasions with poo on his shoes but what really p****d me off was when he came home with shorts, bare legs, socks and shoes covered in poo. i had to strip him off on doorstep before putting him straight in the bath and his clothes on a bucket of water.
> Being the owner of 4 dogs you can see people looking at you as if it must be yours, no this is why every coat I own seems to have the pockets stuffed with poos bags ready for picking up.
That's me but with five dogs.

Not so lovely in practise. It then means you can't walk your dog anywhere else, often they are not within easy reach for those on foot, the number of dogs leads to fights etc, and it is a place where disease can concentrate.
They are also too expensive for many people, and I do think this may be oen reason so many US dogs aren't routinely walked as we expect to do with ours.
Love or hate him, the need for excersise as stressed by Cesar Milan for the dogs mental wellbeing cannot be over stressed.

This used to happen where my sister lived, She made a sign, nice and friendly and jokey addressing it to the dogs saying ,we have to wait please could you, putting a picture of her two dogs as if they had made the sign and it stopped almost straight away. She even had a box of bonio with an apology left at the house for her dogs ;-)
I think sometimes people just really don't think and are horrified when they realise.
I would hate dog parks I have dogs so I can walk in peace and quiet :-(

I was out walking the dogs with hubby on Sunday morning after a couple of days of really heavy rain. The streets were a mess with dog poo that hadn't been picked up and, well, after the rain you can imagine what it was like! We do have a lack of bins in the town but if some of us can pick it up and take to a bin or home why can't everyone else? I would like to see those responsible for the mess on our streets and in our parks being prosecuted as it might make folk thing twice about leaving any mess.
I pick up my dogs poo as they deposit it in the garden as it is easier plus I don't want them or us to stand in it and trail it into the house but my neighbour just leaves her dog's poo and picks it up when there is loads of it! I had a peek through the fence this morning and her grass is covered in poo! Yuck!

Bilbobaggins, that is a great idea - I love it!! I'm off for 2 weeks over Christmas so will get my craft head on and create a sign :-)
I'd hate dog parks too, I love walking my two in the mornings when its dark and there's no one around. I do like talking to other dog owners on walks though and that was what made me so cross on Saturday, I'd stopped to talk to a lovely couple with three dogs, and when I was walking back down the said path I had to dodge the piles of poo that their dogs had left behind, it really changed my opinion of the couple who I had thought were really nice fellow dog owners - why couldn't they have just waited to let their dogs off until they got into the field, then it wouldn't have mattered where they'd pooed!!

Alice,
I called the local council and spoke to the waste department who deal with this. It did say on the net that they don't plan to put any more dog bins out.
The council took all the details and would be passing it onto the dog fouling team. My only concern for doing this is that they could end up trying to ban dogs from walking the path, which is not the objective on this. We need more wardens to catch these people.
As it happens there is a dog bin in the car park at the end of the pathway or start. Most people don't walk their dogs for huge amounts of time, even so it doesn't take much to walk about with it until you get to a bin or home.

I live very close to a small common area and gave up walking my dogs there because it is so full of poo. I got sick of having to look at my feet instead of ahead as I walked; and still often ended up with poo on my shoes.
On weekends I now take my dogs to another common that is well over 800 acres of heath land, conifers, ponds .. it's lovely. There are
two bins for dog poo in the car park and nothing anywhere else. Even though it is chockablock with dog walkers, especially on the weekend, there is so much land dog poo is never a problem. What you do need to look out for are the giant piles of horse muck - because there is a stable at the edge of a common and the paths in the common are used by horse riders. That said, they are pretty hard to miss (at least when fresh).
What really irritates me though is that people will bag their dog's poo and leave the bag and contents hanging from a shrub or tree. At least dog poo decomposes - a plastic bag chucked anywhere does not. I just do not understand the mentality of some people.

We never miss the horse poo because mine lot usually managae to get to it first & either eat it or roll in it LOVELY!!!

IF they're still doing it - you can get in touch with the KC and join the responsible dog ownership campaign.
You will be sent a good supply of free dog poo bags, posters and stickers (about 7"x5") to go on the poo bins.
I've been campaigning for a loooooong time in my area, and leaving free bags on bins. Can't say it's making a huge difference, but it's a start!
Can't abide lazy people who can't be bothered to pick up after their dogs....basic dog ownership responsiblity I would say.

My puppy recently changed over to Tripe in an attempt to get him to eat properly (very successful) however the change of food caused him to have the consistency of soup for a few poos whilst he adapted. There I was trying to scoop it up into a bag!! Could have done with a ladle but I managed.
Now that's dedication to the cause if you ask me!
> There I was trying to scoop it up into a bag!!
eugh.. bless you definite dedication!
I've had to do that before ... blugh!

Yep on occasion too. I usually sprinkle leaves or grass over it and then you can just about get it into the bag.

I always keep a few sheets of kitchen roll in my pocket along with poo bags just incase!
> kitchen roll in my pocket along with poo bags
Thank god for hand gel no more washing fingers in puddles or streams!

I pick up at home once a day - less often and with 3 dogs it's disgusting! I also always pick up when I'm out, except once when I'd run out of bags, most unusual as I usually have a dozen on me, and once when Henry did one right in the middle of a huge patch of nettles!!

I hate it when people don't pick up, George is a filthy scavenger who will eat it so it's really horrible if I don't shout 'leave it' in time! The few times I've caught people in the act of deliberately leaving it, I've never been close enough to 'offer' a poo bag, I can just see the dog squatting from a distance. :-(
>> kitchen roll in my pocket along with poo bags
> Thank god for hand gel no more washing fingers in puddles or streams!
I find Lidl Baby wipes cover both needs :)
Its not dog poo thats a problem in our local park - its stinking CAT poo! :-(
Most local dog owners here are great at picking up but today's generation of cats seem to have forgotten the old-fashioned habit of burying their waste!!!!
I get evil looks from mothers with small kids, yelled at by a cat-owner who tells me the park is not for dogs - and I always pick up!
To top it all, the bloody cats sneak in and sleep on the dog's bed in the kennel overnight if I don't keep the door closed!
I liked cats once............!!!!!!!!!!!!!
