Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lethargic after having blood taken

Hi guys- need some advice/reassurance. I am taking my girl to Australia in January and today she had a blood sample taken. She has been lethargic since 11:30am after the vet trip- would any of you think this is usual? I spoke to the vet and she said not to worry and that it would be to do with the stress of the vet trip. She has also thrown up a couple of times, but as she hasn't eaten anything today it was very foamy. The vet was adamant she will be just fine, but she is my little baby and I hate to see her sad and sleepy. Do you think it is too much of a risk to watch her through the night and see how she is in the morning?

Is she normally like this after going to the vets?

My dog still does not like cars, when he goes to the vet (always by car) it really stresses him out to the point it gives him a high temp. Afterwards he is sleepy with stress and will sleep several hours straight through, it normally takes overnight for him to get completely right - big baby. I know he's like this now so it doesn't worry me any more, but the first time he acted like this it worried me to death :(

She LOVES the vets- hence why I am dubious about the stress thing. If I am walking her past the surgery she tried to duck in! I have just taken her outside for toilets and we have pinky/red diarrhoea. Time for the night vet I think. :-(

Poor girl, what a worry :(

Let us know how she gets on at the vets.

This sounds like the same symtoms my old collie had, he wasnt making enough red blood cells and after a blood test he was extremely lethargic, he started throwing up a little and seemed really off colour then he started pooing blood as he had developed an internal bleed.  The vet asked us about poisoning as rat poison gives these same symptoms so try to think if its possible she has eaten anything she shouldnt have or been somewhere where she might find something like that. The other thing she said it could be was haemophilia(not sure of spelling) or cancer, which it was in our dogs case. I really hope your dog is alright, best of luck at the vets.

The vet is certain she just has a bad case of gastro- so £70 later we have emerged with an antibio injection, something to slow her digestion, Pro-Kolin and Lectade. She really perked up when she reaslied we had arrived at the vets (we usualy walk, but drove this time) and has had some of her electrolytes. Thanks for your kind wishes guys, I will post if there is anything further to report. :-)
