That means squirts.!! Mega sniffy and loose!!

I've changed my dogs food, all 5 of them. The old girls from IAMS cos I've used up my mega cheap supply and the pups from Pedigree (that's what the breeder was feeding them) We're all on Arden Grange Lamb and Rice Complete, with Arden Grange tinned Chicken and Rice for a bit of variety, everybody has moved over really well, I weaned them all gradually even the big girls.

The day starts with Weetabix and goats milk for everybody (plus scoop of dry mix for pups) has always been like this and caused no problems.

Tea is dry mix with either tinned Arden or tinned fish, sometimes fresh cooked fish and veg, sometimes complete on it's own, this has always been the routine and no problem.

My problem is one of my pups Isla 7 months has had the trots ever since we used up the Pedigree complete, her 'sister' Bonnie 8 months is fine. Isla is stinky and loose (poo soup), still has the appetite of a horse, she's a pig by nature and is as lively and as bright as ever.

So she's not ill but how long should I let the poor moo have bad gut's before I consider something else for her?

Why not put her back on the Pedigree complete if it suited her?

That is my thought too.!

I wonder sometimes if dogs don't know what is good for them.??

They thrive on a lesser quality food and we as owners think we're doing the best by them and change things, only to cause bad tummies!

All of my other girls have taken to the Arden Grange but it doesn't seem to suit Isla. It is convenient for me to have all of them on the same food but if need be I will change things for Isla, how long should I let it go on.?

TBH Nicola I wouldn't let it go on another meal!  Since the dog is reacting so badly this food doesn't suit for whatever reason and constantly feeding something which is having such a disastrous affect on her digestive system is pretty much guaranteeing turning this into a major health problem in the near future.  Would you continue to eat something which upset your tummy?  She's probably having more than a few stomach cramps and a very sore bottom too - not something we'd carry on with for ourselves is it?

Starve her for 24 hours after her last bout of loose stools (not just from her last meal), then feed something bland, small portions only, for the next 48 hours minimum such as boiled chicken or white fish with starchy over cooked rice and then gradually reintroduce the food she was previously happy and healthy on so that approx 5-7 days post fast she's back to her previous diet which agreed with her.

I can't ever recall having more than two dogs at a time eating the exact same diet - much the same with the humans here too LOL - it's no big deal :)

Hi Teri

She seems a little calmer today and there are signs of the poos thickening up, I gave her steamed white fish and rice last night but only a small quantity and again this morning. She's been pestering for food all day today.

I'm not totally convinced that it is the new food as they have all been weaned on to it over a period of 3 weeks and it's only in the last 3 days that she's been loose, I do have a big problem with her eating poo and lots of it. Having said that incase it is the food I'm going to get some more Pedigree in and put her back on it.

Just realised I've contradicted myself, in my OP I said she'd had the trots since using up the Pedigree, this is not the case, it's only been over the last three days, the Pedigree and new food were mixed in together slowly over a period of time till the old food was used up.

About 3 to 4 days ago she had a mad poo eating session up the garden, I began to wonder if I was not feeding her enough and so increased how much I was giving her, she is a complete hoover, and it did cross my mind if perhaps she's just been having too much.

Sounds like her loose poo was not do to Arden Grange at all.

I know if I switch foods and within a couple of days of switching one of my dogs gets the squirts, I blame it on the food.

If you switched weeks ago and she got the squirts - and she's been consuming poo - chances are it's not the food switching that's to blame.

To cure the poo eating, try feeding them fresh Pineapple, it helps them digest their food and makes it smell different and less attractive ;)  also pick up as it's done to reduce the opportunity ;)
