Went to LKA today, Amy my 11 year old daughter has been actively competing in junior handling for about 6 monthsnow but  this was only her 3rd champ show. Well, she was just wonderful ( and so was Arnie!!!!!) and finished 2nd out of 21 handlers today, her only crime, letting the judge see some of her lead in her hand on a run round, thats how close the decision was!!!!! This was on the back of 3 wins on the trot for her age group at open shows so all in all a wonderful finish to the year for her. I am sooooo proud of her, she really has worked so hard with Arnie and now they make a cracking team. Just the confidence boost she needs to compete in the older age group when she turns 12 in March. She might not have made it to crufts this year but watch this space...........

I was watching!  I was almost in tears watching these kids & my dd wasn't even there, so I can imagine how proud you were.  If she's the girl I think, then she was the one I was willing to keep her cool when they were doing the last few laps as she had a big dog & was holding back to give the dog a chance to stride out.  I was thinking good on you kid!  I didn't get to see the placings as it seemed to take forever, but the last few in the ring were so good, glad I wasn't judging!

Fabulous

I love watching the junior handling, most of them can certainly put me to shame.
Well done, big congratulations Amy:)

Well Done to Amy!

I love seeing Juniors doing well :)

I'm waiting by my phone waiting for todays results as a girl who handles our dogs is at LKA today handling a border collie she has been asked to handle, apart from richmond this will be her first champ show handling class and the first time she's competed with this collie.

I think she has no credit though :(

Yes that was her handling a gsp, very difficult for her when there are small dogs in front of her, she did have to keep her cool!!! Thankyou everyone for replying, I showed Amy she was amazed at all the responses.

Well done Amy :-)

A few years ago my oldest daughter showed locally, but never did go in the major shows. She had a bitch that was, um, not very co-operative to say the least ;-) Think of a sack of potatoes and you've got the idea :-) She worked hard with her bitch and usually won. A lot of the other kids would complain, because the bitch wouldn't behave, whereas their little toy breed did everything it was told to do. I remember one judge turning round and saying, 'yes, but this is a handling competition, and she was handling that dog. All you were doing was showing yours. There is a difference.'

This is what it sounds like Amy was doing. She was handling her dog to show it at its best. Keep up the good work. :-D

Well done to her!!! And yes Lindylou, I know what you mean, I've once or twice got a startlingly good result with my rather unco-operative Yankee, and was told afterwards that they were taking the difficulty of handling the dog into account. And for your daughter to do so well after only 6 months is brilliant - at 11 years old she must be up against people that have been handling for 3 or 4 years! :-)

Tell her to hang back even more next time to make sure a) the judge notices it & b) so that she can really stride out with her beautiful dog!  Congratulations again Amy!
