Topic Dog Boards / General / Is there such a thing as a chew proof dog bed?
- By pinkbrady [gb] Date 10.12.08 14:47 UTC
I'm desperate to find my dogs a comfy bed that they cannot chew. I've tried several different ones. Vet beds seem to last the longers but there is noticable damage within a couple of days and they have to be thrown away usually within a month they get so damaged. I must have spent a small fortune on different beds and am yet to find one that is actually chew proof. I'm currently using old duvet covers and blankets but it is only a matter of time before my supplies run out. I'm also worried they are not thick enough as the dogs sleep on a stone floor and I don't want them to damage their joints etc.
Is there such a thing as a chew proof bed or am I searching for something that does not exist?

Let me know when you find it, I'm forever replacing vet bed.  The only one that doesn't chew it or shred it is my puppy (believe it or not).  She prefers to chew the draws in the kitchen :-(

Tuffies do one that they will replace if your dog manages to destroy it, I believe. Not cheap, but cheaper than continually replacing them in the long run I expect.

I've seen them, but just cant bring myself to spending £50 on dog bedding

Well, £50 in one go - if the OP is continually replacing dog bedding, they probably spend more than that in a year anyway.

I have the opposite issue really, can't seem to find any sensible dog bedding at a reasonable price that doesn't need to be extra strong, but has a washable cover and a waterproof inside.

Um crates with a bit of carpet in the bottom and vet bed ontop works great for our two only on the second lot of vet bed in a year. We do not even have to shut the door on the crates anymore they just stay in there until its time to get up.

Hmmm it seems a common problem. I will check out tuffies.
Thanks for the replies, keep any other suggestions coming X

I use Tuffies, and they have lasted 3 years, I used to go through beddding daily, and the machine was never off washing vet bed, definately recommend Tuffies, worth the money in the long run!!

mine have chewed through carpet :-(

Do the Tuffies beds have zips on them? One of dogs has a passion for chewing at zips until they burst and don't work.

No zips on them, have copied the link for there website for you.

Tuffies do a guaranteed chewproof bed now also and it is pretty good. I have only had to replace the cover once (which they sent out free of charge) in a year and that is with two VERY strong chewers. It is comfy, easy to clean and although expensive, worth every penny ;-)

Hi Caroline,

Few years back I had the Kudos range of beds recommended to me by quite a few members of this site. (Must admit I was torn between tuffies and this make) I think what swung it for me in the end was that Kudos did a made to measure service (I could have my own specification made up) They were super helpful and delivery etc were A+
Kudos beds
Ive got the 'dog sacs' had them 2 years now still as good as new so easy to wash leave em outside to dry and they have not faded in the sun or appeared to have aged at all and they have had vomit, bloody bones..you name it plastered all over them and still smell fresh as a daisy :)

And they survive storm's attempts to dig to Australia through them :)

I had Kudo's beds and my girl nailed the corner of one of them, she is the main culprit! Little minx :) Will check out the tuffies.

You could try one of the 'Trojan' beds from a company called Bronte Glen, They are supposed to be made of a material used in stab-proof vests!!

We use both the Kudos and tuffies at the kennels and have found the only onwe to not get wrecked was the industructable one from Tuffies. The Kudos ones didn't last long with some of the staffies!
