I had my PC re loaded last week and appeared to be working well. However 2 separate individuals have e mailed me attachments (photos) today but I can't open them. When I click on paper clip, it will not highlight file or the save option. therefore cannot do anything with it. Any suggestions. I don't know if there is some setting I should have done something to to allow me to open them. thanks Sue

Hi sue -I'm not that good with pc's but I've not been able to open a couple of pictures this week .
I think it has something to do with the format they are sent in
sometimes you have to open them 'with'a programme --photo express or
MGI photosuite
sorry can't be of any more help

Star ..I think you need to go to Tools , then Options then Security (in Outlook Express) and make sure you have unchecked the box that stops you opening attachments

You' a Star. thats sorted that out. I still have one other problem now though. When I click send/receive, outlook express says 'receiving mail' but nothing will come through. Any thoughts on that one. The whole pc also seems to be running slow but maybe that is because it is trying to receive the e mail. As stated I only had it repaired last week and it was going great till yesterday.
thanks

Double click on the bit where it says receiving mail and see what it comes up with ..its maybe trying to download a big file ...

Hi melody
It says receiving mail but there is no blue line appearing to show progress. I have looked at the e mail thru freeserve and It is a duplicate of one I was sent yesterday with about 6 pics attached so I know it is a big file (I know the guy, so not likely to have a virus or anything)Freeserve will not open it either. I have tried to delete it thru freeserve but it appears that not only will it not open but will not delete either. If I could get rid of it, it might make O. Express okay

Okay ...go to Tools ...Message Rules ....Mail ...you will get a new window opening. As you know what size this file is already ...check the box that says *where message size is more than ..* then look at the bottom of the window and fill in the size you want (just under the size of the file probably) then check *delete from server* ..okay all of that and hopefully it should get rid of it from the server...once its gone remember to go back in and uncheck it all if you want to receive other large files

The size of file is3.01 mb but the 'box, asks for kb. How do I convert?
I used to think I was quite computer literate but I am not so sure now

It sounds like a "stuck" (large) email to me, it sometimes happens.

If the previous advice doesn't work you could try this which I have used successfully in the past ....

There is a piece of software you can download free from the internet called POP3 Scan Mail Box, this allows you to look at and/or delete any mail that is sitting on your mail server without actually downloading it.

Once the software is downloaded you will have to configure it with your account details and password.

It is available to download free from here: http://www.kempston.demon.co.uk/smb/index.html

Things that will help you when configuring it:

The PO3 server for Freeserve is POP3.freeserve.net

Your account name will be the bit in bold of your own Freeserve address eg. xxx@YYYY.FREESERVE.CO.UK

Your password is the one you normally use to log into Freeserve.

If you manage to configure this ok for your Freeserve account you will then be able to delete files on your mail server without downloading them.

Good luck !

Hi Melody
I have just looked at what you said but it states that the message will delete after it has been received. I can't actually receive it so it might not be the solution.
In the meantime I will have a look at the post above. It does appear that the message has stuck

If THAT doesn't work or you don't fancy it checkout Freeserve's own advice here ...

For the BOLD you need to remember to put a / before the b inside the brackets at the end of the bit you want bold ;)

I have had to go back into my posts and edit Sooooooo many times becuase I forgot it
