Hello

Does your house have carpet?  As hoovering daily will help combat this.

Hi Ronnie
What about her toys? just thinking if its effecting her paws would dust mites get in any fabric toys? i only let Lillie have hers a short time now, incase it makes her allergy flair up. I use tea tree cream on any spots she has, but maybe you have tried that already? just a thought about the toys thou.

Try a daily wash with a weak solution of Hibiscrub - I've found it helps to dry any weepy sores.  The only other things I've found successful are extreme vigilance to prevent the dog getting too obsessive about paw nibbling, and a buster collar worn for a time.

It also helps to keep the dog cool, we've found any itchiness gets worse when the central heating is on or the dog lies in front of the fire!

If you are concerned that she has an infection speak to your vet about a short course of antibiotics and Fuciderm Gel - they wouldn't recommend long term use but it's great to heal/soothe the worst itchy patches and very handy to keep in the cupboard.

As already suggested regular thorough hoovering and steam cleaning any furnishings and washing any fabric such as beds regular basis.  The steam cleaning made the biggest difference to a friends dog with a dust mite allergy.

Boosting her immune system with a well balanced natural diet can help immensely.

i have a collar that vibrates  on her maybe i will try that  when she chews i only use it for excessive barking  on her  she does not come upstairs anymore and mainly lives out in kitchen with me im out here 24/7  on lap top and watching tv   she doesnt have any bedding she prefers sleeping on the floor in kitchen .. ive been putting thornit on her paws and just hope its not going to harm her if she chews or licks it off... its  quite worrying as now she has started to howl and moan when she chews her paw ..  its only ever affected her ears before ..  she deosnt have any soft toys  dont laugh but i have to confiscate them i have 2 GSD's  here and they fight over toys like kids do <sigh>   I refuse to go down the steroid   path i am not a lover of them at all .. thanks for the comments  guys xxxxxxxxx  Ronnie

I think that I would be steaming much more often, at least twice a week, to try to get things under control.

I know that's what it says on the packet but I've not found it very helpful for dogs with allergies and skin problems.

Raw diet seems to have the best effect, followed by home cooked.  If you really want to stick with commercial processed food, then I've seen Wafcol Salmon & Rice or Vegetarian help make some improvement. :)

I can only imagine that it must be absolute torture to have constant irritation.  I'm unhappy with a gnat bite!  :(

You mention spray cannister - the aerosol could also be an irritant?

JWB made my dogs really windy so I changed.  Burns is supposed to be rather good.  I use Skinners.  And of course raw feeding has been mentioned.  I would feed raw if storage wasn't a problem for me lol!

My JRT has numerous allergies including dust mites and I hoover everyday thouroughly including chairs and steam clean once a week.   He is also intolerant it seems to all foods except Hills Prescription Z/D ultra allergen free.
He is also allergic to storage mites that are found in food so I have to soak it first in boiling water.

Lillies allergic to storage mites too, so she has royal canin hypoallergenic which helps all her allergies and is blasted, so as far as i know that stops the storage mites.

Have you been to a homeopath vet? I ask as the will be able be able to give you products to boost the immune system and possibly help you with remedies to help control the allergy.
