my young dog of 8 months seems to have lost the lenth of hair on his ears
he could be chewing on them or one of the other older bitches could be having a chew
is there anything i can give him to help the hair grow ,as he,s qualified crufts i would like them back to normal , as this breed is suppose to have long curly ears

only time and maybe some conditioner incase the hair is getting a bit brittle and brealing.

Is this a Welsh Springer?  There is no way he is managing to chew his own :-D  I don't think they are required to have particularly long feathering on their ears, I presume you didn't mean long actual ears, but certainly not curly!

no he english and the bottom 3rd of the ear which is actually feathering is very wavy unlike the welsh which are flat and not as long

and believe me he CAN reach and get at the end of his ears

My Cavalier friends often have this problem with other dogs chewing the ears. One of my friends I had to virtually do a puppy trim round his ear (luckily he isn't shown) as thanks to the latest youngster he had virtually a Bedlington style long tassel in the middle! Another 2 dogs cannot be let out together unsupervised because they chew each others ears! Even my girl stripped the topcoat of my boy's ears as a puppy, and they've never quite recovered.

Could try putting some bitter bite spray on them which might stop them getting chewed.

I tried everything - bitter bite spray, hair spray, tea tree, I've forgotten what but something horrible and greasy. Only thing that worked was watching them and stopping her in the act!

How about using a snood on him to protect the ear feathering from himeslf and the other dogs. Afghan people use it for that exact reason and I used to use one on my Cavalier. Poodles and Setters get their ears wraped to protect them. Keep in mind my experience is with the AKC so I'm not sure if the KC or your breed has rules againt either method.

Was thinking about a snood, my friend Saluki has to wear one, as he nibbles his ears and fringing.
