Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Training Treats

Hi

I am training a 12 month old Northern Inuit and he is quite hyper and gets very bouncy with some treats as i imagine kids do. I treat my other dogs with gravy bones but he goes a little crazy on them. Would small peices of cheese send him loco? I want them to be extra tasty so he sees them as high value and my dogs will do anything for a piece of cheese so i want to give it a try. Does anyone else have NI do you let them off lead? He is generally a good dog, re-call needs alot of work, and walk to hear general manners etc, he was teased by kids as a pup so he is fear aggressive towards them but were working on the basics before we go onto that. He has been castrated a little early to my liking and he is fed on royal canin with tripe mixer. He eats alot of dirt ( i mean big clumps of earth and grass) and alot of horse poo when we walk him, so i think he must be lacking something in his diet. He is very lean, ribs visible at all times. Does he need larger portions? Or will feeding him more bring on more adverse energy? He gets at least 2 good walks a day one good run with my 2 in the morning and lead walking at night. I have suggested changing his food but im unsure what to.

Thanks in advance

Louise

We have little liver biscuits from Scats our Border loves them, BUT they are going straight through my cocker...

My friend has a bouncy Inuit - although Skye is now 2 1/2 and is alot better.  She trains her with cheese, sausage, ham etc.  I use garlic liver cake to train mine...they all work really hard for it.

My friend wasn't confident letting Skye off the lead at first but we worked with her and she runs off lead now...she has a really lovely temperament though so no problem with other dogs.
