Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Mate-tel does anyone have one they dont want?
- By ChinaBlue [gb] Date 07.12.08 13:23 UTC
Does anyone have a mate-tel kit that they don't want anymore? I am trying to obtain one for a friend. The manufacture has been put on hold because of a tragedy in the family.

Would be happy to buy it.

Many thanks
Kat

Hi, i think the human form of the matel which is called the ovatel is the same thing. I bought mine of e bay and then when i'd finished with it sold it again for more than I paid :)

I think they are the same thing, just a magnifying glass really. Some people use a microscope. I couldn't get enough saliva from my dogs, they aren't a "droolly" sort of breed.
You get a picture instruction leaflet with it that shows the fearning patterns. I looked the patterns up on the internet for dogs. They all looked the same to me though, so I gave up on it, but some people swear by them.

OvaTel are exactly the same as MateTel, have used both with same results............plus OvaTel are half the price of MateTel.

How accurate is this? Does it really work? Obviously I don't need it for my bitch this time ;-) but have often wondered if it was any good.

It worked with my girl, she had been a late developer, didn't have her first season until just after her 2nd birthday, 2nd one arrived 12 months later, my vet said he thought she was probably infertile as her seasons were light and disappeared very quickly. She was mated on days 7 & 9, and went on to have 9 beautiful pups, all fit and healthy and all survived.  So I think if used correctly yes it is reliable.

Thanks! I have only used blood tests at the vets before, when I was travelling a great distance, and was just wondering. As the stud dog I used this time lives here I obviously didn't need any help ;-)

I've just done the blood test with one of my girls.  She was ready there and then so mad rush to sort things out, as the two times she's had a litter she was mated on the 18th day, this time I was told I had to mate her on the 10th day at the latest.  Will see if anything happens this time but not raising my hopes.
