We have recently been taken over.
Our new masters that be have decided we will be using SAP as our accounting package.
I have never used SAP I use CODA and have used SAGE.

Has any one any experience. We start using SAP in the new year.... NO training.

Hi bilbobaggins, we have used SAP in work for the last 10 years, we use the whole package, ordering, usage, stocks, accounts, just about everything, we never had training either, there was one person who knew everything as he set it up to work in our factory / office, but he left about 2 years ago, the powers that be thought it would be no great loss, but we have had to have crisis meetings at work as some people do not know what they are doing or what impact it has if they input something that is incorrect, now we are having somebody come in to train and educate people on how we use it in our workplace. 

I was always told to think of it as one big gigantic calculator.  It can be daunting, but once you know what you are doing and looking at it will become easier.  It is a german package I believe, best used in companies that make car's, ie. a car only has 4 wheels, (5 if you count the spare), one steering wheel, one handbrake etc......

Jane thanks for your reply. We (finance people), are all having a bit of a panic mixed with rebellion I think. Our company spent so much money on CODA which is very complicated, partly written specifically for us, parts of it never truly effective procrument is the weakest and most frustrating .It pulled together various other systems. Financially it is the dogs ........  I think the main difference is that there are very few Nominals and Cost centres on SAP so somethings become less complex, ie order input, but accounting becomes more so ........ Oh well time will tell.
I gather CODA is more finance friendly . SAP more operational...I guess we just need to learn the language  :-)

we started using SAP 5/6 months ago...daunting at first and still having 'teething' problems but personally I think its far better....however since I work for Woolworths and we are in administration I will probably never get to learn much more than I already do!

We work on the edges of SAP in that our main customer (German) went to SAP about 8++ years ago, the only way it affected us was that every product we handle on their behalf had to change it's part number to SAP. They had a lot of teething problems and they had the pleasure and benefit of training :(
