I wonder if someone could advise as I'm a little stumped.
My puppies were wormed at 2, 4 and 6 weeks with Drontal Puppy Suspension - each time there were dead worms coming away from them in their faeces - not in massive quantities but enough to notice the white strings. They're now 8 weeks old and I wormed them again - again we have worms and I am at a total loss. Mum, who is no longer feeding them, was wormed before mating and has been wormed at the same time as the puppies - all the other animals in our home have been wormed at the same time too.
Can anyone shed any light onto why they still have worms? I'm really careful about hygeine plus I pick up poo the moment they do it and I feel mortified and embarrassed that I will send them off to their new homes next week and once they're treated there, they'll produce worms again! :( I'm not seeing worms in mum's faeces either, which is puzzling me.
Just to add that they have a healthy appetite, they're thriving, in good condition and putting on weight.

They have a bad infestation. I would personaly use Pancur over 3 days and hold them back for a week to see if you have got it cleared.
The puppies would still need wormed at 12 week by the new owners to.

Are you certain you are getting the weights and dosage accurate. I could just be a very heaving infestation but underdosing could leave mature worms continuing to reproduce. I would also do as Blue suggests and use another wormer to try to increase the spectrum.
yes thats what id say too ....try another wormer and make sure the dosage is right ,my last litter where worm bound to start with but by the time they were 6weeks pups wasnt loosing any ,i started with dronital and then changed it because of so many worms but i carnt remember what it was the vet gave me !!!
good luck

Dogs carry worms! As horrible as worms are their life cycle is absolutely fascinating ... true survivors! Worms lie in the muscles for years ... it really is worth finding out about! Whilst you may worm your dog and not see any worms, that doesn't mean to say they are not being passed, it may be they're just too small for you to see.
I would worry less about the fact that worms are still being produced - if they're dead then the Drontal is doing it's job! Make sure that you are worming at the right times and with the right dosage, with Drontal Puppy I would expect to worm at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks, thereafter at 10 and 12 weeks. From then on at 1 monthly intervals until 6 months, then at 3 monthly intervals. Just make sure you give the new owners the advice about worming. It sounds as though you're doing everything right, it's not a matter of poor hygiene, just a matter of how wonderful a survivor a worm is!

I always Drontal my bitches prior to mating, but it's the pregnancy hormones that get the bitches full of worms during gestation whether she was wormed prior to mating or not! So your bitch is full of worms before she ever gives birth. If you Panacur your bitch from day 40 to 2 days post whelp, the pups will be born 98% worm free, so you don't get the huge burden.
