All, my 12wk old Cocker bitch had an extremely restless night last night (unlike her) and today has been panting for most of the day. We've had her at the vets who gave her a shot of antibiotics and said to return in the morning. She is still panting heavily, even when asleep and her nose seems to be running. Its been very cold lately and the idiots at the Post Office havent delivered her jacket yet (after requesting redelivery twice) so I think she may have developed a cold but dont know what 'doggy' symptoms would be. Has anyone came across this before and should we be worried about it?

Dogs don't get colds as such (runny noses with a clear water like liquid is normal in pups) and feeling cold would not make them pant -my two 12 week old pups have been outside all day today until it got dark and they are shortcoated. Has she got a temperature? Is she eating? Coughing? Anything out of the ordinary happen today? Panting can be caused by being too hot, feeling unwell, feeling scared.
She was barking all night last night (we thought it was through hunger as yesterday we dropped her late meal to take her down to 3 a day) and when I went down to her this morning she was unusually aggressive. She hasnt been coughing but panting and being generally lethargic. She also ran away from neighbours who she would normally greet warmly.
Edit; She is still eating.
ah she sounds poorly to me or has been frightend perhpas in the night??

She sounds stressed for whatever reason -I'd keep a close eye on her and if she's the same tomorrow see the vet again.

What did the vet say? I presume they checked her temperature and it was raised if they prescribed antibiotics. Did they listen to her heart and assess her for any cardiac problems? Gums and eyes for anaemia?

Don't like the sound of this ! I'd be taking her back to the vet or going / speaking to another practice...see what they think
etc!
All, sorry for the delayed response, been busy looking after Millie!! We had her at the vets twice on monday and again yesterday for a check-up and things seem to be ok. She has a course of antibiotics to be on the safe side but the panting has stopped and she seems back to normal!! The vet couldnt say what it was but her temparature wasnt high and she was still eating so i guess we were just overly protective as its the first time she's been off-colour. He did say her chest was quite 'wheezy' so may have had a mild infection. Thanks for advice / concern.

I'm glad she's improved. When they're that little, who am I kidding it never stops, you worry so much about them.

Pleased to hear that she is back to normal again and is o.k.

Really good news so pleased she's ok! :-)
