Topic Other Boards / Foo / £1 a day challenge anyone still doing it?
- By kazz Date 18.09.08 20:30 UTC
Does anyone recall the £1 a day challenge....and has anyone done it? if so how much do you estimate you have saved?
- By tooolz Date 18.09.08 20:37 UTC
naahh...spent it all on choccies..... I can't help myself :-)
- By St.Domingo Date 18.09.08 20:43 UTC
Where do you get the cans from ?
I couldn't find them in Poundland .
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 18.09.08 20:49 UTC
If you can't get a can then why not use a large coffee jar, sellotaped to stop you opening it if you must ;-) (I was going to say superglue, but you might cut yourself on the glass after you've broken it to get the money  )  Make a hole large enough in the top to put the money through.

I can't afford the £1 a day, but have been putting what I can away in small change. Sometimes it's quite a bit, sometimes just pennies. :-(

Did anyone else used to have one of those very large whisky bottles from a pub when they were a child ? You used to have to get the pound notes out with the help of  a stick or something similar .
I wish i still had mine  !!

I saw ones in poundland the other week but I suppose each store must be different.  I have still been saving 50p and £2 coins so think I maybe have a couple of hundred which is a start.  it will do towards xmas at least.
- By Oldilocks [hk] Date 18.09.08 21:00 UTC
Yes, I am still doing the £1 a day!  My tin is getting really heavy now, we have decided to open it on December 1st. so I'll tell you how much we had in it then. :)   I say 'we' because my OH jumped on the bandwagon and is also putting in the odd £1 coin!  You can get the tins from some of the card shops around here.  It was Tracey123 who started us all off on it I think!  :)

Been doing similar with1p,2p,5p, 10p and 20p out of my pocket end of each day, some days its zilch others its up to about £1.40 depends on 20p s.. I spend it on xmas but what goes in from xmas to begining of March is my 'extra' spending money for Crufts to use on stuff I don't really need but that I fancy getting :-)

I cant really afford a pound a day now but everytime I get a £2 coin I put that in. I've got a sticker on the side of my piggy bank indicating what the money is for. This time round its for a new living room door which is about £50. :)

- By Oldilocks [ru] Date 27.11.08 21:50 UTC
FOUR tins.......WOW!!!  We'll all have to say the amount we have.....bet you win Kazz!!!  :)
- By kazz Date 28.11.08 22:15 UTC
I think I have a fair few 2p and pennies in there.............
- By ali-t [gb] Date 29.11.08 13:17 UTC
I haven't been doing £1 a day but every 50p and £2 coin goes in so it should be worth a bit.  I will wait until it is full though before opening it.

I have a couple of these which i have been running, though i got as a present a china jar which cost a wopping £17 as a Xmas present last year. You make a wish and then when you open the jar that is what you get. Though i think with the price of everything these days and the huge credit crunch i'll save from smashing it open for now..

I do have another one which i think i'll start bagging up and getting changed up at my local supermarket..

Its a great way of saving..

- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 30.11.08 10:00 UTC
Well....I have opened my tin!  £359.70 I got!!  I have no idea where the 70p came from!!  Must have put 20p's and 50p's in some days when I didn't have my specs on!!  :)  Got to get another tin now ready for next year!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.11.08 10:19 UTC

- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 30.11.08 11:06 UTC
The trouble is that I have spent it already!!  :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.11.08 11:50 UTC

- By kazz Date 02.12.08 10:39 UTC
Right I have opened mine well 3 of the tins and found
3 lids from glass bottles of coke...;)
A £10 note I put a lucky dip win of £10 in it.
And £503.86 more copper than I though but hey it all counts look after the pennies etc.
I am starting next years now.

- By Oldilocks [gb] Date 02.12.08 12:53 UTC

- By Beastie2 [gb] Date 03.12.08 08:57 UTC
Yes St Domingo we have a whisky bottle that we have been saving 5p's in for YEARS (well over 10) it still isn't full we are just going up the narrow part towards the neck, I think they will have changed the coins before we get there, I keep wondering how much will be in it?
- By briedog [gb] Date 03.12.08 11:55 UTC
£260 in 50p and 20p got to still account the 10p 5p, yet

£1 last count was over £500
