Topic Dog Boards / Showing / burton on trent show sat 29th - help needed

Hi Is anyone attending this show tomorrow? I need some help with my young pup. She has been very unco-operative at her 1st few shows caused by a scare at the vets which has meant she wouldn't let the judge assess her at all. Through some good advise, trial and error and lots of patience and calm handling we have worked out that Millie needs to be " warmed up" before she goes in the ring with people going over her. She shies away at first but after a few attempts she settles down and is fine. However, its quite difficult to ask people you don't know to go over your dog and I am unaware of anyone I know going to this show tomorrow. If there is anyone going tomorrow who wouldn't mind helping me out by taking 5 mins to " be judge " for my dog I would really appreciate it. She is a german shortaired pointer and I will be the frazzled looking woman at the end of the lead with 2 young daughters! If you can help, I will be hanging around the goldie/lab/flatcoat ring as we are on after these. Thanks very much

Hi Carolann. Firstly thankyou for helping me with Millie, I really appreciated it. She was a very good girl and stood lovely for the judge!!!! Yeahhhhhhhhhh!!!! You would of thought I had just won BIS with her the way I was beaming!! She was 2nd in her class behind a lovely pup so I was more than happy. Arnie, my older boy then went one better, winning open getting BOB and eventually gundog group 2!!! Amy, my daughter couldn't be outdone so she went and won junior handling 6 - 11!! Millie also showed again in the minor puppy stakes and came 3rd, again being as good as gold! All in all a really good day. Oh almost forgot, Arnie won his final point for his show certificate of merit!!!!
I also met up with Archiebongo AKA jill, hello, nice to meet you!!! lol
Have just arrived home, will be doing it all again tomorrow!!!

How did you do???
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 29.11.08 20:50 UTC
he got 1st in puppy, best puppy, and then took reserve best of breed,
i am so pleased with him still smiling
but he has gone lame again so he is on rest for the next few days took him to the vets as i left the show early
because i was really worried when i saw he could put no weight on his front leg, got to the vet and he waltzed in as though
nothing was wrong, she checked him all over and could find nothing wrong, but when we started to walk out the surgery
he pulled his leg up again and hobbled,so she saw it, she has given him a pain killer and thinks that when he has stepped
out of the car he may of just bruised his pad , and not to worry to much about it .
but you do worry he is supposed to be resting, at the moment the spitz has him in a head lock and they are rolling around the floor
roaring at each other

LOL try explaining rest to a puppy!!!! Well done you, I wish I had been able to see him close up, have never put my hands on an akita, but they are dogs I do admire, next time! So, he must of got off his back long enough for the judge to assess him then lol Ihope his lameness sorts itself out soon and it is nothing too serious, we do so worry about our babies don't we....

She was great again. Found it all a bit cold though but allowed the judge to go over her no problem, just had enough by the final stand. She was place 3rd out of 6 behind 2 older pups. Whilst I will not become complacent over her little problem, I think we have definately turned a corner and she is no longer worried about it.  Roll on the rest of the shows!!! I hope your baby's foot is feeling better today as well.

i am so pleased for you but keep doing what you are before you go into the ring so she just gets to think it is part of the pre show build up, etc
and we have no limping today at all and he has been out for a very short walk and seems fine so keeping fingers crossed as we are out and about this weekend
with him
