Nellie was spayed just a week ago and is having quite a rough time (i.e she HATES it) on limited, lead only exercise.
Hubby just came home and noticed, on her right elbow, a sore about 1cm in diameter. The fur has been rubbed away and there is a little red, circular sore. At first I said that it must be her harness - she isn't used to being on a lead for such a great length of time, and she spends a lot of time lunging and leaping in the harness on her two walks per day, so I assumed that it had rubbed her a little raw. But looking again, there is no way any part of her harness even has any contact with that part of her elbow.
She has been wearing a t-shirt to prevent her licking her surgery scar, but generally only overnight, and she moves around in it so little that it can't be that either.
Do you think she's been licking? She's been very down and depressed about not being able to go to work as she normally would, and I've been really vigilant about not letting her lick the wound - perhaps she has resorted to elbow chewing? Yikes, what do I do? When she wears the t-shirt I notice she chews her paws a bit, are we building up to a big problem? She isn't normally a paw chewer.
