Hi everyone... I am new here so HI!

I hope someone can advise me please.

I have a 14 week old ESS and for the past 4 days he has had "cowpat" type poo, I feed him beta puppy 3 x a day (this is what he was on when I got him) he is up to date with worming and is happy and active.

I read on here about giving boiled rice but im unsure of wether to mix it with his food or give it plain? and how much to give him?

He weighs 7kg.

Thanks :)

Hi Nikki

welcome to the forum :)

Any chance your little lad has eaten somehting he shouldn't have?  Pups are notorious for scavenging on all things disgusting in the garden, out on walks, etc and of course often steal things off the kitchen counter like butter, cheese, left overs and what not.  Anything like this could have caused his system to get over active and produce sloppy motions.

I'd starve him for 12 hours then give him some steamed white fish or chicken.  If he copes OK with that add some over cooked rice to this and keep him on that for a further 24-36 hours providing he's showing improvement.  Then gradually, very gradually, reintroduce his original diet and by the end of the week he should hopefully have settled completely.

Providing you are happy with his health otherwise this should be sufficient.  Is he drinking normally, playing, happy in himself otherwise?  If you have doubts about anything then better to have him checked by your vet but if he seems to be OK in the main then a brief fast and bland diet is usually the most effective way to get things back on track.

HTH, best wishes,
Teri :)

Hi Teri thanks for your reply... I will try him with some chicken later on tonight... he is happy playing and drinking fine.

He eat loads at the park.... leaves, bark, plastic anything goes really! I do try my best to take anything he shouldnt eat out of his mouth but I think he has eaten a load of rubbish down there!!

Probably what has caused all this...

Thanks :)

Hi there

If its only over the last 4 days his poo has been like this he may have picked something up or eaten something, puppies do tend to do that!
However Beta isnt a very good food (In my opinion) you could try switching him to a quality food like Arden Grange for his future health and less messy poo's !

Hope he is ok

Beth
