Topic Dog Boards / Health / Ulcers/Fatty Deposits in Eyes

I've just taken Sam to the vets as he has what looks like a white patch on his eyes. I was so worried that it was  cataracts but the vet said it could be ulcers or fatty deposits. She put some coloured drops on the surface of both eyes and has prescribed eye drops for 7 to 10 days. If it hasn't gone by then she wants to do blood tests to see if its a chlorestrol problem. Sam is 4 years old. Has anyone come across this before? I would be very grateful for your thoughts.

Just had this worry with my Cher (min pin - 2 years old).

She was put on eye drops (more like a gel than a drop) for 7-10 days, and I was given some info about it as a print out from teh vets.  I got to go find it, but I will put the key points on when I do (somewhere in my stack of doggy papers).

Anyways, I was also told to switch to a lower fat food.  She was eating Turducken by Merrick before (18% fat) and I switched her to Solid Gold (10 % fat)

Let me, run upstairs, and get the info.  I will add it when I find the papers.

Chers eyes, seem to be getting better.  The one eye, its barely noticeable now, but I will still be doing a cholesterol test with her annual exam and health checks.

Try looking up Lipid Keratopathy

The stuff I have, in printout from my vet is very very clinical.

-may be primary, spontaneous, inherited, or it may arise secondary to inflamitory conditions of the eyes and certain metabolic disorders (ie Hypothyroid)

Sorry I couldnt be of much more help, but it is really hard to try and find other words for vet terms, but if you google Lipid Keratopathy, you may be able to come up with more information

Hi, Hopefully the drops will fix it.  However, I'll try to find the info on my dogs eye disorder.  He had a fatty build up in both eyes.  He ended up having an op after some time with drops etc because his vision became very blurred.  His op was very successful and both eys cleared brilliantly.  It was some time ago now, so I hope I can find the info.  Not sure if we are allowed to recommend consultants but if you need to be referred please pm me as we had the BEST eys specialist.
