The vet did have a look at the puppys when they was a day old,Think we might have to take him back.

hi sarah i would get him checked over with the vets again, as soon as poss. I am only surmising that your puppy must be quite strong to have reached 7 days old and not put on any weight.
in my limited experience with 2 litters and 15 puppies, they all gained weight within 48 hours, but sadly a little girl who didn't put on weight and was becoming weaker by the day had to be PTS. She was showing signs of distress and our mum of the litter was ignoring her.
You said he is feeding off his mum but are you able to check that his tongue is at the bottom of his mouth when feeding as occassionally they lift the tongue to the roof of their mouth and obviously this will stop his feed going down.
will be keeping fingers crossed for you and the pup.

i have one a bit like that and being the small chap he just gets knocked off when his gannet siblings come for their dinner. I now have mine on 40mm royal canin every 4 hour just to top him up a bit and the difference after 3 days is amazing.

just to add to previous post - move mum away from whelping box and just feed him with her and do this every 2 hours - if he has not gained weight in 7 days he will be getting weak, if this is the case you could try using 'Life Aid'. Also keep him as warm as poss, maybe on a hot water bottle, but don't leave him on his own with that.

I had that situation with one litter and pup didn't gain weight for 11 days despite feeding from Mum every chance and being bottle fed on top.
The Vet and I came to the conclusion there must be a serious problem with her metabolism/digestion and we put the pup to sleep.

We have been bottle feeding 'little pete' every 2hrs with the Royal Canine milk and he also has the heatpad to sleep round with his litter mates. When we do pick pete up to feed him he does go stiff :( but his not weak We will be making a trip to the vets.

Is this after feeding? As this makes me wonder about a Liver Shunt.

Well we took him to the vets and i dont think he really know why he wasnt gaining weight he did say it 'might' be his liver.
He did give him 3 injections and us some Welpi,We was feeding him every 2hrs with the RC milk but changed it over to Welpi now and he has gained 1oz.
