We are huge Chelsea fans BUT this is not the reason why she was named Chelsea I/we really liked the name and I only really became a total Chelsea/footie fan after she was born.

I too like Daisy and Grace, my friend was going to name her baby this if indeed she had a girl (Daisy) as it sounds a little like David her husbands name,there traditional people who name firstborn after the dad (and in some cases second) but she had four boys, David, Joseph and the twins Marcus and Maxwell

My parents could not agree on a name for me, so I was officially named PARSLEY for months. I even had a name plate on the door to my room which I think they kept as a reminder. They finally agreed on Katherine Elizabeth- try writing that when you are a kid. When I was three years old I decided I didn't like Katherine and only answered to Kate, foiling their evil plans. To this day, my Dad is the only person who gets away with calling me Katherine. I like the idea of giving children more unusual names, but it seems people are taking it to new levels these days! :-) 

I was actually christened Thirza!  And have never, ever used it.  When anyone brings anything to me at work, and mention that the first initial says T. and not J. I always say, yes they always get it wrong.  Nobody who knows me has ever been told my birth name!

We laughed and laughed at that, I am from Airdrie stay in Prestwick and work in Glasgow and I can just picture that scene, think Rab C and Mary Doll heheheehheehhe

WHY!!!!! would you call your child Shakira????????????? I used to hate my full name Alexandra as a child, now I love it and regret changing it to Sandra which I now hate. What would happen if I was the former or Pocahontas OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend's parents couldn't agree on her name either. Her father wanted Candice and her mother wanted Hazel. So her father wrote both names on pieces of paper, scrunched them up and threw them for the dog to choose one. What he didn't let on for years was that he'd scrunched a chocolate in with the one that said Candice ........

I know of a kid called India.
When I first heard it I thought Weird. But after knowing her for 2 years, I think the name suits her completely and it is not strange anymore :) :)
I do tend to call her india when I am teling her off. its indie the rest of the time!!!!

Katherine is my daughter's name, full name Katherine Alice - we think it's a nice classic name which will sound sensible when she is grown up - but I didn't stop to think of the trouble she would have learning to write it! I suspect she might become a Kate in the fullness of time. 

I think that is why my parents chose it as well as it's a nice, sensible name. I don't have a problem with Katherine now, but as a teenager I was mortified if a new teacher ever called me Katherine instead of Kate. There are so many shortenings for it as well... Kate, Katie, Kathy, Karen, Kay, blah blah blah- if your daughter can't find one she likes she could always buck the trend and stick with Katherine!!

Yes Stormy84 we partly chose it to give her some options later! It's not easy choosing your children's names because of course you have no idea if they are going to like them. We went for more conservative options in the hope that they wouldn't feel odd or get teased because of them.

Oh just to add, my Katherine possibly thinks her name is a bit dull, because she says that if she ever has a daughter she will be called Elphaba. (the Wicked Witch of the West's name, and Katherine also hopes her child will have green skin)

We have a huge family on mine and hubbies side.

I am married to a Dave, as is my sister and my husband's sister as well.Half the kids have Dave in some form as a middle name.
I so wanted to call my last cat Dave but was not allowed!!!
We have Stephens and Andrews on both sides.
The younger ones vary from  Katie (KT) to the more exotic Indijah (India to u and I).

As a little girl I always wanted to be called Elsie the same as my mum's friend's lovely persian cat.

Haha, yes I would like a daughter called Tina after our dog :-)  Didn't Indiana take his name after the family dog?  Think that was in the 3rd film lol.

My daughter is called Rebecca but we have always called her Becky. I wanted her to have the choice of either name and didnt think Becky was so good when a adult. I wish now I had just stuck to Becky. On all her legal documents and school register she is Rebecca but no one calls her it apart from my mother. She gets really fed up with it to and hates Rebecca. As she is getting older her friends call her Bexs which I never thought of.

My son is Adam and its so much easier, Not abrevaited and easy to spell lol. I loved the name anyway but it was chosen becauce all the first born males on my hubbys side had been called Adam.

I myself hate people giving abbreviated forms of names as the official name on birth certificates.

If you want a Tony do it properly and name them Anthony.  We have a Ricky in the family not Richard but actually Ricky on the birth certificate.

Now as an adult he may well have preferred to be Richard or when he is a granddad.

I have been a bit mean with my kids as with a Polish sire (oops Father) I opted to give the names in Polish.

So I have Katarzyna (Kasia for short, pron. Kash-a) Maria Anna, and Ryszard (pron. Rish-ard), Andrzej (Andrew) Jan (John), and everyone calls him Richard or Rich.

I am Barbara (both Polish and English spelling the same) Margaret (English spelling) but all my other siblings have Polish spellings of their names, though some names like my first are the same spelling.

So I have a brother Lech Jan, Piotr Stanislaw, Krzysztof Adam, Stefan Dominik, Pawel Jan (younger half bro), and sisters Bozena Barbara (older half sis) and Joanna Sonia (younger half sis).

I had an argument with a well known dog photographer over Curtis's name.  He wouldn't believe it comes from Shakespeare, he thought it was a modern name eg. Tony Curtis, Curtis Steigers etc.  until I pointed him towards Taming of the Shrew.     All mine get Shakespearean names even Robin (Gorgeously handsome kitten) if from Robin Goodfellow (MND).

I remember carrying out a housing visit a few years ago and was taking down the names of the 5 children.  The eldest was called Paris...'after the city? I asked.  'No...after the perfume' was the reply.  The other 4 children turned out to be India, Savannah, China & Georgia.

I also know of a Destiny, a Charisma, several Shakiras and Shanias, dozens of Britneys and Demis and one Beyonce.  All of whom I encountered in my days as a Housing Officer in Belfast.  None of those names should ever be said with a Belfast accent... :-D

My sister in law has 2 children called Morgan and Ashlea - both girls.  She is proposing to call her 3rd (due in Feb) Dylan if it's a GIRL.  If it's a boy, she'll probably call it Vivienne or something equally girly

my next dog will hopefully have a shakspearian name.  I am planning to call him oberon unless he really doesn't look like one ;)

We spent aaaaaaaages thinking of names for our children. Wanted something that went well with an Irish surname but also reflected their German heritage ;)  as they have a German gran :-)  I also wanted them to have a choice of two names as I HATED my name with a vengeance (still do ;) ) and my parents weren't ones to shorten or give 'affectionate names'

so we have Sacha Michelle   and Finn Alexander    both have had a few days at about 5 years old being called by their second names :-D but they both prefer their first name ;)   Both have a story behind their names as well which I think has helped them to like them ;)

but OH now calls her ruth ( roof tyler get it)

My youger granddaughters name is Cyrah, the other one is Roxi-Renee, gt. granddaughter is Summer-Ollivia, Im going to have another gt granddaughter in January and Tracy was going to call this baby Tiger-Lily, I think we have all put her off this name, she now likes Jasmine, Brook, and another weird name I cant remember Lol.

marguerite, how do you pronounce that?  is it like Key-ra, sigh-ra or chee-ra   I get really confused with some of the spellings of names.

My boys have 'normal' names, Matthew Luke, Samuel (Sam) and Benjamin Edward (Ben).  Sam hasn't got a middle name because his Dad went to register the birth when I was still in hospital and forgot to put his middle name!  He would have been Samuel James.

My ex husband wanted to call Ben Porsha if he was a girl.  Not after the car, I hasten to add, but after the Shakespeare character.  I put him off because there were a few Porshe's around at the time, called after the car, which I thought was a bit naf!

I used to be a Kindergarten teacher and we had a Princess Kizzy and a Blossom in my class.  Both adorable little girls, who's names really suited them, but I couldn't see Blossom liking her name by the time she was at secondry school!

My favourite names at the moment are India and Martha.  Both old fashioned but nice solid names.

I think most children hate their names at some point.  My name is Louise and there weren't many Louise's around when I was at school.  Lots of people with it as a second name, but not as a first.  I got called bog, toilet, all sorts of names referencing 'Loo'.  Even my dad called me 'Blue' (and sometimes still does!) as there was an ad on the Tv that advertised Blu Loo toilet cleaner.  I made everyone call me Katie for a good couple of years when I was in my teens!

Looks like my kids have the names of quite a few other CD kids!!!!

Yep, manufacturers, dealerships, clubs, collectors, owners, fans, tv presenters and of course the family whose name is behind the Porsche :) 

It wasn't the manufacturer who created the name it is a German Surname Ferdinand Porsche

Ferdinand Porsche would have pronounced it Por-sha . In German "sche or she" is pronounced "shuh".    Certainly one that is debated a lot but that I understand is the facts.

I like to think my kids have normal names...My daughter is Casey Leigh, and my son,Jake William.

I hate these weird names that these poor kids are having thrust upon them.

My husband is a die hard Hammers fan and given the choice can you imagine what our children would have been called rather than James, Amy, Alex and Hannah! Our dog is called Dicksy aka Julian Dicks!  *groans*

except for the Kerr bit in Bens name,this was after Jim Kerr, although Ben now uses it as a double barrelled surname...

Ever since the episode with the woman DNA testing a twenty-fifth man to find out the father of her child, I've been hooked!  Morals aside, I can't even begin to think of the logistics of it.  It's sooo sad that some people put so little thought into having kids but I think maury is a really sweet guy for helping them.

Names are such an integral part of our person.  It's the first thing you learn about yourself :-) I have to say, I am glad my parents picked a stereotypically "normal" name.  I was named after my Aunt - but I think they took a long time to think of it which goes to show how important to my parents what I was called.  I hated it for a long time but I am thankful for it now.  I do think that a lot of parents do not take the time over thinking up names for their children and how it will/may affect them for the rest of their life.

all through my last pregnancy with ben i knew he was a boy and decided early on that he woyuld be called Tyler
however as soon as he was born i could tell he was not a Tyler and more of an oliver or Ben, after thinking long and hard i chose the Ben option and have never regretted it. i put more thought into my childrens names than any other decision i have had to make!
maybe i should have done the same with my first marriage.....!!!!
