just browsing some websites as iam very bored lol anyway came across this ad..... some of thease ads amaze me
for one is the price......  even though thease dogs look stunning why would you in essence want to buy a wolf?????  are wolfs not wild dogs? but as always some numpty will come along pay the stupid price for them not knowing what there temprement is like or how to handle it as theres not much known about thease dogs so we will in  a few years to come have lots of thease types of dogs in rescue as it seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment to own a wolf like dog.  this sort of thing needs a stop putting to it how we do that i dont know but something needs to be done

The thing is, there are plenty of folks who want a wolf look-a-like otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them.  Grey versions of my own breed look naturally wolf like and appear in lesser numbers than reds, fawns and of course blacks.  Some folks are just drawn to the colour but others more drawn to the notion that a wolfy looking dog is an image boost :(  Sad but true and a fact that most responsible breeders in breeds affected by this mentality are very aware of.

And for those less responsible breeders - it's no different from 'oodles' et al because it's really only ever about the £/$ :(

That's interesting I hadn't noticed DEFRA had re-classified under the DWA. I notice the  DEFRA ammendment was 11/11/2008 so this advertiser was quick of the mark ;)

Czech Wolfdogs are a recognised breed is all the FCI countries along with the Saarloos Wolfdog which is a Dutch breed, both were bred originally from different wolf stock and GSD.

Just what I was going to say, this is an actual breed -I saw the Czechoslovakian Wolfdogs at the World Show this summer and LOVED them -took some photos. Had no idea they had arrived in the UK, gosh, best not tell hubby or he'll be off to buy one! They were in the ring next to us hence we were able to watch them quit a bit whilst waiting our turn and I really liked them. Looked so much like wolves but yes, an FCI recognised breed. And they all looked the same, unlike the crosses here known by so many different names.

Those breeding the mixes had no reason to do so when they could easily have imported either of the two recognised breeds with established traits if they wanted a wolf lookalike.

they could have used their energies to help develop and widen the lines in the established breeds rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.

Ahhh *but* herein lay the problem (and where the 'niche' for NI/Ute/'Tamaskan..et al became open) it was NOT easy to import! The first dogs were brought in with the ok of the KC and DEFRA *but* then DEFRA and KC retracted!! It was one crazy situation where suddenly CWD's and Sarloos were on the DWA needing a license regardless of wether they were F1 or F10! and this is what the Owners/breeders have been fighting for in the UK since 2001. It has taken until very recently for DEFRA to have (as seen in my link) changed their stance and recognised the misnomers surrounding 'Hybrid' and got back in line with FCI.

So to clarify; Utonagans/Inuits et al became the easier option as Sarloos and CWD were 'under ground' and had to be licensed. :(
