Bad day at work today, PC playing up, call IT god, he starts to fix, notices my screen saver, it's one of my pups, we begin doggy chat.

Turns out he breeds and show's occasionally, we talk breeding and such, then he tells me of 'a guy in a nearby town that sells puppies, loads of them and all sorts of breeds, his comment was 'I reckon he has them delivered by the box load'. It sounds dead fishy to me but I don't know where to start to look into this when I don't have a name or anything other than 'Pups for sale in this particular town. Any suggestions on where I would start looking first?

Yes check the papers and see if you can get any info from this

Just spotted your post and thought i could push it back to the top as the more people that read and reply with good ideas the better! :)

Best plan would be to go undercover and pretend that your some sap who wants a pup for Christmas for instance?  I am sure you will get his name and number from local pet shops or just looking in the local papers? Phone them make inquires if your up for it go along with a friend for support and if your troubled by what you see- contact the local council and rspca and they should investigate this mans breeding business?

Might haunt you for a while after having to see these poor dogs on offer but in the long run will hopefully be closed down. Still spins me out that people would actually pay for puppies raised in this way- should be an out right ban IMO.

I agree!!! It should be!!!

Agree with everything you just said too, might be worth doing that and giving it a go, what have you got to loose by doing so apart from a bit of time? When its pups lives and owners being robbed of this then its well worth it in my eyes

Yes, but even when the authorities know about these things they don't always act! :-(

I can understand why you want to help but be prepared for it not to have a happy ending. stopping these evil puppy farmers is not as simple as it seems.
Well done for trying though.

Or be prepared for a house full of dogs for christmas - there was a programme on tv the others day. Plus I am trying to adopt another spaniel, she isnt perfect but I would love another spaniel pup. A rescue one this time and they specialise in fostering and homing dog breeders rejects it breaks my heart but I may be able to save just one for me!! We also give to charities so this dog ownership is addictive.

I hate that such people can even be called 'dog breeders' as what am I and others on this forum who breed to call ourselves, that kind of scum is a 'puppy producer' at best.

Sorry Brainless they call them x breeding bitches and stud dogs mainly spaniels and westies from what I could see. I certainly would not include anyone on here, I was not being rude I do apologise.
Its like us getting the hump watching programmes on cowboy builders when its been our family business for 49 years (my dad now me), I know the difference between good and bad breeders - yes x puppy farm dogs would have been a better description - the bitch I have fallen in love with is blind in one eye but I can cope with that she's going to be my pet nothing else.

I'm shall take a look in some of the freebie papers, shop window's and stuff and generally ask around.

Am I allowed to same on the forum the name of the suspect town and some of the papers names that we get in this area?  If so then more people can check too and maybe some that are better at it then me.

Pinky, (are you Nicola by the way in disguise?!) do you want to PM me with the name of the town and I'll see if I know anything - I've been doing a bit of research into adverts from suspected PF's so I can check for you to see if I know anything.

Just done it PM that is

Whistler I think I know of the rescue that you are getting your dog from, they do some fantastic work with ex puppy farm dogs. I only wish I lived nearer to them and could help them out, mind you if I did I would end up with way too many dogs :-)

Good luck with getting her - do you know when you will be bringing her home ?! I feel so sorry when I see all the ex breeding dogs for rehoming, and think of their puppies that have been sold for ridiculously high prices. To these scumbags (Like Barbara, I couldn't call them a 'breeder') they are just money making machines.

Certainly took no offence, but I just hate the way all breeders are seen as evil because of these kind of people.

They might not be breeding all they sell either what most people do not realise is that nearly all these puppy farmers and dog dealers know each other, nearly all use the same register, and nearly all use a certain commercial web site to sell their puppies, as well as free ads, and they all know about the retail shops selling pups like Dogs4US.
Many of the puppies could be shipped in from other puppy farms. One near me before it got closed, (combined effort between some behind the scenes work by the KC and local concerned dog owners), not only bred pups themselves but also imported pups from puppy farms in Ireland.

I've found something that looks very iffy and with advice and links from AliceC I'm going to send my info on. Due to where I live on the M4 corridor it's a great route for these scum to produce their stock and transport to their 'shops'.
