Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Nutro Large Breed vs. 'normal'

What a pillock I am - have ordered the large breed version instead of the normal from Zooplus. Does it matter? What effect will feeding 15kg of it to my 20kg dog have (not all at once, obviously!).

Nutro website is down, so I can't even do a comparison, even if I were clever enough to know what it all meant.

Hi M,

The difference tends just to be that in analysis Protein, fat, fibre and the cal:phos ratio are lower than Adult formula's.... the actual % difference varies from brand to brand.
Don't know which of the Nutro's you've got but for example here's a comparison of the Nutro Adult v Large breed maintence formula (It was the only one I could find on the www.)

Large Breed:                                                            Adult:
Protein - 27%                                                          Protein - 28%
Fat - 14%                                                               Fat - 17%
Fibre - 2.5                                                               Fibre - 3.0
Cal - 2.5                                                                 Cal - 1.5
Phos - 1.1                                                               Phos - 1.4

usuable energy = 355. Kcal.                                        Usuable energy = 369. Kcal

Does that help?
(nothing some egg and sardine etc can't top up...*if* required ;) )

Ta Liv. So if anything it's lower in protein and fat ... (it's the lamb & rice adult I've got) ... so shouldn't be too much of an issue. Despite not getting fed much (well, apart from what she steals!) I'd like her leaner if anything.

What does extra phosphorus do?

Hopefully will be fine. Although if lower in fat, might not improve coat, which is what I was wanting LOL. Should have stuck to the Arden Grange!

Thanks again.
