Hi

trying to be organised this year and having a voucher for money of at Tescos I have brought all my xmas cards. I need loads as i tend to get them for the kids to.

Actually got my son to sit and start writing his. Everyyear the school has a in house postbox and the kids put in the cards, They tend to sent to all their class mates and any other friends in the school so quite a few cards.  He really enjoys getting all the cards back from his friends.

He has just brought a letter home asking if this year can each child only send one card to the whole class and the teacher will make a display in the class room.

It does say at the bottom that if you already have the cards to send as normal and this will be the last year to do it.

I can see there point as its a eco committee and they want to save resorses but its xmas and the kids really enjoy getting cards from each other.

What do you think?

I've made all my cards myself, as I do every year!

Personally, I wish my childrens school would do that, although maybe they should have told you earlier. I think buying Christmas cards for so many children can get very expensive and it's an added pressure for parents who may already be struggling. I always worry in case there are children without any cards too. It must be awful to be sat on the carpet when the cards are dished out and to not get any.  I'd also be happy to have one less job to do and I guess the teachers feel the same way. I suppose you could still give out cards outside of school if you wanted to.

Bah humbug :-)

I used to worry about the poor little souls who didn't get cards so I used to ask my children to write one to everyone in their class.  My daughter was happy to go along with this but, as there was was one little girl she really didn't like, there was always one card she wouldn't sign - poor Beatrice had an anonymous card with a paw print for 5 years!!

Now my kids are at senior school they don't bother quite so much but still like to give cards to close friends.  I think the idea of saving money/paper etc is a good one but it's a bit bah humbug for small children.  If it's a primary school perhaps they could have just gone about it a little differently.  One year my neices school asked for used christmas cards to be given to the school and the following year they made them into new cards to be sold at their christmas sale.  All the children were given extras for free and these were mostly given to school friends.  I like this idea, it gets the point across about being green whilst still reinforcing the idea of giving messages of friendship etc to each other.  it also raised some money for the school and the handmade cards were very sweet (if a bit gluey and over glittered!!)

I think it's good in the respect of kids not getting a card, you could send the cards outwith school. I used to love sending my cards through the school postbox though.

Hi

All the kids got cards though, The teacher use to hand out a class list and we all sent to the whole class. And then he would sent to his friends in other classes. I am really sad about it as tonight he has sat and finished writing them all. We will do it this year as we already have the cards and he started them yesterday. Never been this organised before.

I do appreciate it can be a added stress to some parents. My daughter was a nightmare to do cards with but she did enjoy getting them back from her class mates. Since she has gone to high school she hasnt bothered and  only sending to people who send her one. This year however she has asked for a pack of cards and will be sending them out.

Maybe I am a big softie but it just doesnt feel right to me and its all part of christmas. I got the impression from the letter that they dont want cards handed out in the playground.

My youngest school has stopped giving a list of names as it is against Data protection Act :o :o :o :o
Sam does who he can remeber!!!! and anyone else he remebers at the time.
I wish I had never started buying presents for teachers and everyone else. As to my knowledge I now buy presents for teacher (this year its 2 as the share the class) teaching assistance (2 per class) Special need helper (There is a special needs kid that needs 1 to 1 help in sams class but his helper helps Sam as well. and dinner lady!!!!
I dont mind the cards as I buy a pack of 30 for £3 and make sure they are funny ones
But was so plaeased when James went to secondary as I didnt have to buy for his teachers!!!!
only got 2 more xmases of soending £20 on scholol presents!!!!!

I agree lumphy that it seems a shame to tell them not to send cards - it is hardly compulsory so if people don't want to they don't have to anyway, but to say not to seems lacking in Christmas cheer to me! I think it is nice when the children want to think of their friends and send cards, I buy some in the January sales for the next year so it doesn't have to be expensive. My children are always delighted to receive cards as well. Bah Humbug indeed!!

We also give a present to class teachers but maybe just a craft item the kids have made themselves! It's the thought that counts is what I say!!

i can see both sides.
Yes prehaps some parents cant manage the extra money for so many cards and it problely takes ages to sort out whos getting which card etc.
But on the other hand if you child wants to send acrd then i think they should be able to after all that is the point of christmas to give and not expect to recieve itsnt it?
