i have a new jack russel pup thats lovely ,but when we go to bed it does'nt stop yelping any advice or hints to make it stop??????

Maybe try putting a loud ticking clock in the kitchen or wherever it sleeps as this sometimes makes young pups feel that they are not alone. It worked for someone I know.

Also i would ignore the behaviour. If they think that by making this noise you come down and fuss them they will keep on with this.
Putting a hot water bottle in the bed and a radio on low and a ticking clock would help.

Make sure that you have set times when you go to the pup to take him out for toilet breaks in the night and don't fuss him, let him do his business and put him back to bed and ignore him again until the morning when your up.

We had a littler of JRT pups a few years back now and we told all new owners to ignore this behaviour otherwise your making it out that its the way to behave to get attention.
A family ignored this advice and went to the pup everytime he cried for a whole year. They called up saying they couldn't take it anymore. I explained again what they needed to do and if it needed be then we would take the dog back(they were thinking about rehoming it through a rescue centre). We never heard anything from them again. I'm taking it that it worked as i was admiment that i didn't want this dog going into rescue when we could take it back.

Everyone has their opinion on this and this is just mine. New pups when they go to their new home have never been alone in their lives. They get whisked away from their mother, their siblings, their breeder and the home that's been the only security they've known. They're not human, they're dogs so the human world is confusing and sometimes scary for them. So I don't like to chuck them out on their own. Dogs are social creatures that like being with their family. I make a little corral next to the bed so I'm right next to them. Neither of my pups cried once; not a single peep. If you don't want dogs in your bedroom fair enough but I would then sleep downstairs near the puppy for at least a couple weeks. Having the pup near you makes getting them out for house training much easier as well.

I agree with you lori.
I have had several litters of JRT and the last litter I had one left on its own for a week before the new owner could collect it.

I had it in an open cage in my bedroom it cried to get up with me but I made it go back to its bed each time it whined and it settled down fine and learned what BED meant as this was said to the pup when it was settled down at night and if it came out of the cage.

When the new owner took it home it was quite happy to go to its own bed in their kitchen ( supplied with a blanket with mum smells on it )   as it knew what BED meant by then.

I know this may sound a bit OTT to some people but it stops the need to go and try and settle the dog several times a night IMO leading to the dog getting to know that if it squeaks you will come running ,  and it is so very hard not feel sorry for the wee soul and give it a cuddle when you have to do this.

With my own 2 JRT I never had this problem as I got 2 pups at the same time (they are sisters . Told my Hubby They were pals and needed each other !!!!!!! so Blackmailed him in to taking 2) and it was great. I know some people do not agree with this but they kept each other company and are the best of pals and it is lovley to see them playing and hunting together for mice etc. This however can only be done if the circumstances of your lifestyle and how big a home and garden etc are. I am lucky as I have a large kitchen and garden as I live on a farm.
