As anyone used Burns complete dog food, if so would you recommend it? I have been thinking of changing to this brand of food but would like others views on this complete food first.

Many thanks

hi, my dogs were all originally fed on james wellbeloved but did not get on with it, On the advice of some shooting people I know, I changed to Skinners, as all of their spaniels and labs ate it and did really well on it, I found it made my dogs really windy! they stank the house out - We could put up with the gas no longer! I decided to change to a BARF diet to see if it made any improvement and I had been researching it for a while but was it bit scared to take the plunge!, unfortunately just couldn't seem to get it together, I found it hard to get the food i needed, and ended up paying a fortune to feed the dogs, as none of the butchers, locally, could supply anything I needed, they all said that everything can ready prepared now, and they didn't get any necks, wings, etc in any quantity, so I was purchasing whole chickens and lamb chops and things! I gave up, and looked around for the next best thing (IMO) and switched to Burns. My dogs have been fed Burns for over three months now, and all look great on it, the only thing I found was that I feed more than the recommended instructions on the bags as they did start to look lean, you can also mix the different types - my dogs are very active but i don't feed them all working food, you can mix the 'adult maintenance' with 'Active' to get the balance that suits your dogs. I still feed raw bones, and liver etc sometimes or add some raw tripe, as this is a holistic food with no nasty additives, it felt right for me, as i couldn't get to grips with BARF. My local stores didn't stock it, so I ordered direct, it came the next day - no hassle at all. So personally I would recommend it - and do. Julie:)

I have fed Burns to my labradors for 3 years, and raised a litter on the small bites version. I would recommend it, and I think the dogs would if they could talk. I do also use some fresh meat and fish but Burns is their main food. I feel they are a friendly company who you can approach as an individual for advice.

hi christine, and skip again, when I first looked at it on line I thought it seemed expensive £30 ish per 15kg but when you work out the feed quantities given, as opposed to a 'cheaper' brand you feed less and it actually works out the same if not cheaper! I supposed because it is not packed out with cereals etc you give less? They have a bit on their website that works out how much you would feed a particular weight/age dog and how long a sack (15kg) would last and how much it would cost you per day to feed! i'm a real old skinflint!julie:)

My really fussy eater, Ben(3yr old mongrel) took to Burns when I brought home a sample bag from The East of England show a couple of summers back. He may be lean on it, but he won't eat anything else. His coat is always in glorious condition. My BC pup is on their mini-bites and is thriving. The 15kg bags last for ages.

Hi
I feed all my tt's on Burns and they love it. Come dinner time I sure they see me as a giant bag of Burns. Molly was always a fussy eater but since she has been on Burns shes in the kitchen waiting for her dinner. Its great and all nasty additive free.

Hi Skip - I have been feeding my lab on Burns since I got her six years ago - we moved to Northampton from Scotland just over 18 months ago and I had real difficulty getting it. I now have another dog - GSD really nervous nature - struggles to hold weight and having found a Burns supplier I now won't feed either of them anything else!

Hiya Kirsty
I always buy my Burns direct from 'Mr Burns'. Postage free if you spend over a certain amount which I cant remember but the big bag is always over that certain amount. Hope this message makes sense
