I know it sounds silly but not sure my nerves will hold out at Crufts. I want to enter my boy as he has qualified.
- By WestCoast Date 08.11.08 08:18 UTC
It's just another Champ Show apart from the circus!  Just go along and enjoy it! :)
- By carolyn Date 08.11.08 10:27 UTC
Are you doing LKA?

LKA is a practice run of the car park the benching(not so many benches though)

Ive had the schedule though the post this morning, fast or what.
- By Dogz Date 08.11.08 10:33 UTC
Schedule arrived today.
- By suejaw Date 08.11.08 11:32 UTC
Not doing LKA. Doing the breed open show next month though. Need to get back into showing again after a number of months out of it.
Maybe thats my concern that i haven't had enough practice, done some champ shows though.
- By Dill [gb] Date 08.11.08 11:49 UTC
At the end of the day it's just another Ch Show - just go and enjoy yourself, there's nothing like standing on the 'green' in the ring knowing how many people try to qualify and haven't, but you have ;)  don't forget people you know in the breed will also be there and they'll help put you at your ease ;)
- By rachelsetters Date 08.11.08 13:07 UTC
Sue - its lovely to just be there - must admit I was really nervous too in fact still am - it will only be my 4th time!  But its so exciting to be part of it - and lovely to watch so many of your own breed in one place!

Just treat it like a big ringcraft!!!
- By sam Date 08.11.08 15:14 UTC
im delighted to say i am not entering this year....the 1st year in , i think, 15 or even more years.......whats more im off to the bookeis to put £10 on our BOB :( :(   I will however be there working all 4 days:)
- By meadowhay [gb] Date 08.11.08 15:57 UTC
Crufts is the only Ch show I dont like taking my dogs to!  Its so busy and noisy, hardly any room to move and the public with their screaming kids running up and down the benches! hate it!

Love the trade stands though, so I just go to watch and shop and leave my dogs at home!
- By sandrah Date 08.11.08 16:57 UTC
Those of us in Hall 1 should have an easier ride this year.  The obedience and main ring has moved to Hall 5 due to the pavillion being closed for refurbishment.  That will stop all the arena traffice coming past our benches all day. :)
- By suejaw Date 09.11.08 01:27 UTC
I'm going to take the plunge and go. Just need a companion to come with me as will be soo nervous. Shame a good friend of mine is at gundog day...
I really wish just some times they would put working and gundogs on the same days at these shows.
- By selgovae [gb] Date 09.11.08 04:54 UTC
now that would make things so much easier for me-working and gundogs on the same day-except it'll never happen, next best thing would be to have a day inbetween them, at the minute the only time I get to crufts on both days is when working is thursday and gundogs sunday..which will be next year again, cant wait.

i cannot belive the classes they have but on for the spanish water dogs,
sy,open.working,good c.

i know what class most of the dogs be in open.
i dont know of a spainsh that been awarded  a cert in working? i may be wrong there,?

a handful pass good c.

in two mind weather to take the girls,?
the only good thing is they  are in hall 5 next to the flatcoats retriever that good for me having the two breeds togther,
- By suejaw Date 09.11.08 11:08 UTC
Is there a reason why working and gundogs are never on the same day at champ shows?

I've done working and terrier
Working and pastoral(normal one)

I'm sure i've done one with toy group as well.

They seem to put gundogs with hounds when they group up, why never the working group?
- By tooolz Date 09.11.08 11:11 UTC

> Is there a reason why working and gundogs are never on the same day at champ shows?

Two of the largest groups would exceed the capacity..so large groups (numerically) are placed with smaller groups eg terrier/ hound.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 09.11.08 11:53 UTC
Terri you've got to go as it's our first time!!  I'll be entering Anton even though he's to big.  Won't be entering Lydia at fifteen and a half think it would be to much for her although unfortunately don't think she will make it to March.

Why was MC's the biggest ever class of pupsin the AVNSC?  So won't be qualifying Calida sadly, really wanted to take her but no shows for her now as I missed the lunchtime cut off for LKA and the secretary wouldn't accept anymore even on the same day sadly.
- By briedog [gb] Date 09.11.08 19:59 UTC
went to kc stand today to moan about the fews classes they have put on for us,
so it will be in write to the person that deals with it.
god there be more dogs in open than sy classes.
i beat there none in the working classes .

then jenny and i found some thing elis out too,

what hoop hole there is in the system
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 09.11.08 21:29 UTC
Also working & pastoral used to be all the same group so it's natural to keep them together. I'm really glad you're going Sue, you'll enjoy it and you never know where you might get! One year we went and the judge was someone who hated my boy's breeder, but I thought 'I've earned the right to go and I'm going' - and she gave us a 5th!
- By suejaw Date 10.11.08 02:41 UTC
Thanks Lucy.. Been trying to convince someone in my family to come for support, but they don't seem interested. Typical..

A very good friend is entering on Gundog day, Grrr really wish they would do working and gundog's together.. My 2 favourite groups..Also most of my friends have gundogs.

Think i may just have to see if a friend who lives nearby will put us up for the night, i went to visit the show last year with her. She was a little gutted she missed the agility shows(ring way too busy to get in, being a saturday and all). She may be interested in coming if i can get her on my ticket. Do you know if your bringing someone along if you have to name that person on the schedule?
- By beardiesokay [gb] Date 10.11.08 09:24 UTC
"Do you know if your bringing someone along if you have to name that person on the schedule?"

If your dog is registered in twonames (e.g. husband & wife, partnership etc), you get a free "helpers" pass anyway, which anyone can use. If only registered in one name, you will have to buy an additional entry pass I'm afraid. Edited to say, you don't put anyone else names on the schedule.

- By suejaw Date 10.11.08 10:28 UTC
Its the free helpers pass i was thinking of. Thanks
- By jennyb59 [gb] Date 10.11.08 14:54 UTC
I too am wondering whether to go...how can I enter 2 boys in the same class...I am so incensed at the classes they have put on for us, when every other breed that has come off of the IBR this year has spec Jun,PG,Open,GC and the gundog one that none of us would have been able to qualify for....there have been more SWD's at shows than Kookiers,GLP and in some cases Bracco's....

Have only just got online as when I arrived home last night found the wind had lifted 2/3rd of the workshop roof off, taking the phone line with it, now have a soaking wet workshop, still waiting for the Ins Co's homeserve to phone, loads of elec tools etc, all ruined, along with plasterboard, wood, you name it its ruined.....

So will be emailing the Crufts lady later to question why we have got the short end of the stick...we all worked hard to qualify our dogs and several people who have qualified several dogs/bitches and need a PG class will have to choose which one to take.......Open will be huge...its ridiculous......
- By briedog [gb] Date 10.11.08 14:56 UTC
i cannot belive that non cc breeds have to pay the same price on entrie fee as cc breeds.
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 10.11.08 22:29 UTC
how much is it? i havent checked yet.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 07:15 UTC
£20 per dog
- By jennyb59 [gb] Date 11.11.08 08:22 UTC
Its looking more and more unatractive, I feel sorry for all the people who dont normally show who we got to show this year to get their dogs to Crufts and have a nice big entry for our first one, some of them with real youngsters or own more than one and now theres no classes for them to go in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 08:52 UTC
like you say we ask owners of our puppies to support the breed this year though out champshows to get them quailify for crufts.

i can unstand why some are not entering crufts due to the lack of classes for their age or wins.
so this will but a downer on the swd.even

jenny did you get any joy from what you want to find out about another issue in the breed.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.11.08 13:48 UTC
Stop putting cryptic clues especially when those that brought the breed into this country are reading on this site!  :)  Got some sad news guys, will advise you all later.

We have to enter even though the classes are rubbish, if we don't we will have exactly the same problem next year etc.  I'm quite suprised that they even put classes on to be truthful !

The working one is a joke anyway as none of us can qualify for this because of the grouping they've put us in as there is no test for that!
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 13:51 UTC Edited 11.11.08 13:55 UTC
there no cryptic clues diane,
both jenny and i are stating fact what happen at crufts with the classes, and all the hard work others have gone out of their way to show the dogs over the year to help swd to go crufts.
plus what you said  about classes i stated on friday when i got the crufts schedule in post, told lynn and jenny over the weekend at d/d.

we will not have to problem next year beacuse we on the case about now.
- By Goldmali Date 11.11.08 14:03 UTC
Come on all SWD people, you have EIGHT classes! Sure, if you discount the working (have no idea how that works) there's only six, but that's as many as Laekenois have that have had classes at Crufts for years and years. You can't blame the KC if you don't do the Good Citizen tests with your dogs -and you will have known this would be one class as all breeds have them, so have had time ever since you knew you'd be allowed at Crufts to pass at least the bronze! :) Surely it's a case of roping in some friends to handle if you need to enter more than one dog in the same class?
- By jennyb59 [gb] Date 11.11.08 14:56 UTC
Urm no...one woman has 8 dogs/bitches qualified, I have 2 boys who would both have to go into Open and that would not work as most dogs from the same owner in the same class wouldnt work, theyd want to be with their owner or kennel mate, mine act like dumb and dumber together...My bitch at 21 months could go into Spec yearling along with all the 8 month old pups....What Im saying is at a lot of Champ shows this year we have had over 30 dogs there, at some over 40, and yet there are normally under 10 GLP, 15-20 Kookiers,Braccos could be 30, they all have jun,PG,Open, plus the 2 other classes, one of which we couldnt qualify for,why dont we, (not having a go at anyone in those breeds of course),
One of my boys at 2 1/2 is not ready for Open but would be fine in PG, a lot of SWD owners are multi dog owning(yes they are addictive)
Marianne there are hardly the quantity of Lakenois being shown as there are SWD's only 2 or 3 at most Champ shows and yes a lot of us have done our good citizens in the years past before we were able to compete at Crufts....Until Lakenois numbers increased in the show ring I could understand that would be the only classes at Crufts that you'd get.
So no I certainly couldnt get anyone else to handle one of mine in the same class, still think we should have had the same classes as the others off of IBR, especially as we are numerically greater than most if not all of them in the Gundog group.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 15:35 UTC
the same here two bitchs in the same class both try to get to me speacliy the one being handle bye some elis.
one will be ok for open classs the other only 3 1/2 has just won her self out of pg classes but to inmature for open, but she can go in the good citizen class beacuse she has pass,

plus the two litter i breed in 7 years one litter will be near 3 1/4 years old the other litter just over  2 years bye a month will all be in the open class, far to young for open.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 15:50 UTC
just look again at the schedule definitions of classes states speacial yearling for swd
look at page 12 is only state yearling no  special  yealing turn over to page 13 it give you all speacial classes not yearling

so yealing is from 12 to 24 months,

so what going to happen to the 9 months old to 12  months they cannot entered ,
going to give kc a ring now.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.11.08 15:58 UTC
I'll show one of your girls, he, he!!  My pups not qualified unfortunately and won't be, blooming shame that the Boston show isn't a qualifier, what a pain.

I would say that actually more than a handful have done good citizens but it's the same people that have also qualified their dogs at the shows so the same dogs and has already been stated they also have a number of dogs qualified.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 16:05 UTC
on the phone know so any puppie that 9 to 12 months has to go in open,
the lady was very nice taken my details, going to have to go to the crufts committe or chief stewart,

so unfair . the classes we got to the other that just come off the import regist at the same time as us.

so i am on the war path with the kc.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 16:18 UTC
so the spanish havnt not got a speacial yearling classes misprint it should be yealing.??????
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.11.08 16:38 UTC
Does seem daft when you look at the other breeds.  Do you think I can get Best Puppy in Show between now and 5th Jan with Calida, umm I'll answer that myself, NOPE :) :)
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 16:44 UTC
my phoenix .one of his puppy did over the weekend in sweden at 4 1/2 months old won best puppy in show, and it was a liver fcr.
pick him out over the 8 weeks bye photo being send to me.

that good for me.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.11.08 16:54 UTC
Ahh but my little liver and white, whoops I mean brown and white Spanish is an absolute nutter, she drives me round the bend but wouldn't do without her at the moment.  Sadly Lydia won't be with us much longer.
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 17:03 UTC
gollie sending her love to her mummy,
- By bazb [gb] Date 11.11.08 19:01 UTC
The classification isnt great for any of the first time breeds. Best way forward is to get the breed club to write in with suggestions based on the entry at the 09 show.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 11.11.08 21:24 UTC
Gollie sending her love to her mummy,

Thanks Terri, I've just sent everyone an e-mail regarding her.  Not good news sadly but I've had a great 15 years with her.
- By ShaynLola Date 11.11.08 21:33 UTC

>Sadly Lydia won't be with us much longer.

So sorry to hear that, Diane :-(
- By briedog [gb] Date 11.11.08 21:47 UTC
this what the lady at the kc stated today to put all in writing asap.try to get it in for the next commitee meeting
- By jennyb59 [gb] Date 11.11.08 22:55 UTC
Will do it before that Terri, working on a draft to discuss Sunday and get sent out.....
- By briedog [gb] Date 12.11.08 07:24 UTC
well done jenny,
- By MADDOG [gb] Date 12.11.08 08:42 UTC
£20 per dog

Well that answers that then doesn't it?  Was wondering how I was going to sort out being at Crufts two days on the trot & staying up, now they're asking £20 per dog I don't feel like bothering.  Least it takes the pressure off a certain young chap at LKA :-D
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 12.11.08 10:13 UTC
Well I'll still be taking my oversized boy as I think that for the breed we should.  I know that I won't get anywhere and I don't have the money but I think it's important.
