Aww this is fantastic news.  I look forward to hearing your stories about her.  Keep us updated won't you :)

Benjamin, I'm so glad you have found your puppy - I didn't post at first as you were given fantastic advice by many people, but I am so glad you have followed it, as the others say you will have to keep us all updated!!

I have a soft spot for Cockers. One of the best dogs I have ever known was a beautiful blue roan show type Cocker, I used to dog sit for her when I was young. She was called Nell :-)

How lovely, she sounds just right for you. I expect there will be lots of things you will want to question but above all, be sure to cherish her puppy days. Those days are really special even though hard work. I wish you all the best of luck with her.

Quick update;

We picked Millie up on friday evening.

Since coming home she has been the best little dog!! I couldnt imagine she would be so well toilet trained already. She lets us know when she needs out (day and night) and has only messed the carpet once - when i was too slow in getting my shoes on after she let me know!!

She didnt eat too much on her first night but from Saturday evening onwards, has made light work of anything and everything put infront of her!! She doesnt seem to drink that much but i'll keep an eye on that. Her food is soaked in water so im not too worried at this point.

She yelps at night, at first i thought because she was lonely, but this just seems to be her letting us know she needs outside. We go down and let her out and within 5mins she's back in bed and quiet!! She's then awake by 6:30 and looking for food and to be let out.

Yesterday she entertained around 8 guests for long spells (in between naps in her crate which she has taken to like a duck to water) and made us laugh when she got 'lost' under one of her many blankets and couldnt figure out which way was up!!

At this early stage, we realise that getting 2 puppies wouldve been a nitmare so thanks again to all for your advice. Long may it continue!!

Ahhhhhhh, good luck with her. Can we have a pic on your avatar so we can have a proper drool over her. Millie, love the name by the way.

She sounds splendid - I'm so happy for you. :) For me the first two weeks are the hardest. You are lucky she's so clean in the house, brilliant! I hope you have many happy years together with your little Millie. You'll soon be exhausted but don't worry, they grow up quickly and you'll be able to sleep and relax soon enough. ;-)

That seems to be going swimmingly well :-).  My very first cocker was a blue roan from Scotland and she was a very clean, merry little soul too :-).

Millie sounds wonderful Benjamin :-) As the others have said, please put a picture of her on your avatar...I bet she is beautiful and I would love to have a peek at her!

The blue roan Cocker I used to walk when I was young lived with a black Cocker and she was called Millie too! :-) One day (when the OH will let me) I am sure I will have a black Cocker girl - have always loved the breed.

Im afraid I have to agree with Rachel cockers are known to pine if left apart from their owners for long periods of time. Im sat here now with my cocker asleep at my feet, whenever I move he follows me. If I have to go out on site he goes in and sleeps on my OH feet. We have two dogs as well got one at 8 weeks and the second when the cocker was 16 weeks and the new pup 8 weeks. The cocker still would rather be with me.
I dont have a problem getting two pups together its fun we did it (well 8 weeks apart). But cockers are not dogs that can be left. Other breeds can, a sad cocker can suffer from depression (I kid you not) and get snappy.
We both work 7am - 6pm daily, but, we have the dogs with us at work. It may not be possible for you, but yes no reason why you should not have dogs and work, but get the right breed.
