I have just seen a puppy advertised - £650 without KC, and £700 with papers.  Why the difference?  Unless I am the only person who pays £12 per pup for registration.  I am puzzled.

Daylight robbery, greed, nasty individuals take your pick really just plain greedy.

I wouldn't pay £650 for a dog without papers (without papers, rightly or wrongly, is more likely to be a puppy farm or backyard breeder).  On free ad sites unregistered are about £300.

I came across this a while ago and when i asked why the difference in price, i was told "cos some want to show and if you are not into it why pay more "..... Suppose it is just a spin to sell dog's ....

A lot of crap that unfortunatley some people will fall for. Always makes me laugh when people tell me how much their dog cost. there is this common misconception that if it cost more it must be a better dog, which as we know is nothing to do with it!!

Very true, but it's also good to be aware that a pup advertised a lot cheaper than most of that breed should ring alarm bells and at the minimum should make you start asking lots of questions. Along the same lines though, just because a pup is advertised at 'the going rate' does not mean it's from a reputable breeder.!! So yes, the price tag is no indication of 'good breeding'!!

Agree.  I know a couple that paid a lot for their dog and I am no breed expert but it doesn't look all lab to me.  I paid less and got a very well bred dog from good breeders with all health checks and everything for less.  Granted, he was cheaper as he is a mismark but that wasn't the reason for us choosing him, but the coloured pups were not much more than they had paid for their 'quality lab' with no health tests or anything.  I keep trying to educate people that want a dog (not that I know much myself) about the places to look but most of it falls on deaf ears especially when they are avoiding the cheaper ones but still looking at the pups that mastifflover has also described as being sold at the 'going rate'.

this as always puzzled me in my breed sbt blues go for almost double the the price and i have no clue why they are not super dogs they are supposed to be a rare colour although almost every sbt ad for pups you see now are blue or blue pied so does that make them rare! but people will pay the money...
