Hi, wondered if anyone could help me, i have a direct debit that comes out of my bank account a few days after i am paid. Unfortunatley this month fell different and i was paid the day after it came out. It is my own falt i guess for not remembering but Im fumming as i have to pay fees - £28 and £35 for paid items and going over my arranged overdraft by £22. I remember a while ago someone telling me about a company that can claim these charges back for you but cant remember who they were, anyone any ideas ? I hope and pray you do as £63 is a fortune to me

I don't know about a company, but if you go to www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim you will find information, including a template letter you can use to reclaim the money.  It might be worth a call to the bank to see if they will waive the charge if it's the first time this has happened.  The reclaim process is currently on hold, as there is an ongoing court case with the banks to see if these charges are fair, and they are not repaying anything until this case has been resolved.  But it's worth getting the letter sent in so that it's in the queue for if/when they do start paying back charges to people.
(Sorry - I can't seem to get the link to work - you'll need to cut and paste it)

Give them a ring and explain the situation, you may be able to get them to waive the charges due to the closeness of the direct debit being pulled and your money going in. Hope they do :0

I agree, if its something that hasnt happened before then they will quite often waive it.

Ditto, ring the bank up, they are not monsters (usually :-) ) they will waiver the charge for you.

£63 for £22 for one day!

A LOAN SHARK would be cheaper! :( :(

We've had similar happen and they waived the charges when we complained ;)

I've also complained and had them repaid, there is a hold on the whole bank charges issue at the moment as they are awaiting the result of the appeal on the test case. They have until Jan 2009 I think. For a one off like this I would call them though!

Definitely call them! I had the same thing happen a while back and called to say I would move my savings etc from the bank if they didn't refund the money as it was a one off event. Banks really need 'our' business right now, so IMO should let you off the hook. Definitely worth the annoying phone call.

Banks love to rip us off.  Why don't you extend you authorised overdraft to a couple of hundred more than you have at the moment.  That way you won't get the hefty penalty and you will only pay the interest on the amount overdrawn.  The Moneymaking expert website is brilliant - if you subscribe to his emails (free) you get sent all sorts of handy hints and tips and it's got great forums too!

yipeeeee, sent them a letter, getting the £35 that already came out back and the £28 no longer coming out

Write to the bank I did it for the same reason and agreed a small over draft say £50 they refunded my £35 (not Barclays as well are you?) and its not happened since.
