Ok guys- I quit my 'high flying city job' three weeks ago and have never been so happy- however I would like to make a bit extra cash over Xmas. Any ideas of well paying jobs that I could look into? I really only want to do a month or so, mid Nov - mid Jan maximum. I would prefer something that takes a it more effort and pays well, rather than just any old job for minimum wage. Hope someone out there has some ideas for me!!! :-D

I have a part time job in a Vets, its only 15 hours a week, but its always help with keeping 7 dogs!!

have you tried any of the agencies they always have jobs to cover the busy xmas period on their books, sometimes it is factory work like loading up the palletts for argos,currys,etc
also go and ask at your local tesco and asda etc for any xmas jobs you never know
it all depends what you want to do.
one of my daughters is leaving the country to go and work in kenya over the winter on a game reserve

Oh dear, I think you are in for a shock, if you have come from a high flying city job, you are going to find Christmas wages a real eye opener. I doubt you will find anything high paying it is the wrong time of year for jobs you will be qualified for, offices will be winding down and closing for the Christmas period, factory and retail you can always find jobs, so I would suggest a good retail store (Marks and Spencers, John Lewis, Jewellery stores) and I would act quickly they most probably have already started Christmas staff training, most stores start recruiting end of Oct/beginning of Nov.

I'm glad that you feel a weight has been lifted in quitting your job, but perhaps in hindsight you should have waited until after Christmas, hopefully you are from a career where you can start up again elsewhere, but Christmas is a bad time to be looking for work unless it's in retail etc. Soz, not much help am I, but I would get down to a good store and see if they are still recruiting. :-)

Thanks guys, all very useful ideas. I have absolutely no intention of getting back into investment banking so no regrets there... just want something to keep me entertained and bring in a few extra notes to spoil the family. Will see what I can find tomorrow :-)

Is there no scope for doing what you used to do but as a temp? Or should I say consultant ;-) I used to enjoy temping.  You can get stuck in as much as you want over and above the basic requirement, which is usually pretty minimal and well within your comfort zone, and it is generally well appreciated when you do but on the other hand you don't feel the weight of the responsibility and feel a lot freer at the end of a days stint.

I had given that idea some thought, however to do what I did you have to be on a permanent contract. Worse still, the industry is in total lock down... no new jobs even for the successful banks. The guys I used to work with aren't even allowed to replace me... bad times. I need something less high pressure and more high activity... I was even considering waitressing and turning on ther charm to try and get the tips rolling in!

what about party plan?  This is the busiest time of the year and I supplement my income doing body shop parties.  I have made up to £130 at parties for 2 hours work.  Body shop, virgin vie, ann summers etc the choice is yours...

If you don't mind hard physical work, outdoors and are quite fit, how about a postman/womans job.  Pay's not bad and they are always looking for staff at this time of year.

I used to work in Pubs and Restuarants over the Xmas period hard as hell but great fun. Never touched the wages just spent the tips!!

Don't touch the Royal Mail they have become among the worst employees .Partner 27 years experience so no need to argue the point with me any one LOL

good luck, Ive ecently been made redundant and am having a hellish time tryin to find a job. Dont let the shops see you expeience, otherwise they wont look at you. To get that less stessful job. You really have to dumbdown you experience.

I agree, I think you may have left it too late for any seasonal work.  I did the Xmas season at M&S once & I was working now as they spend anout 2 weeks training you up so you've got the hang of the job when it gets busy.  I used to love working in the food department on the Saturday's leading up to Xmas!  Also if you want to get into service work e.g. waitressing be prepared to work all the festive days one year I worked Xmas eve, xmas day, boxing day, ny eve & ny day as a waitress/bar staff - granted I earned a few bob but didn't have any Xmas that year!  I hope you can find something suitable but I fear you've left it too late! Hope I'm wrong...
