jus wondering peoples views on dog charitys i personally feel people should give to people before animals what are your views?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.11.08 19:11 UTC
People should give (or not) according to their conscience, and shouldn't be railroaded in any direction.

It would not be charity then it would be a tax.  The whole point of charity is you give what you want, to who you want.  In one sense I agree with you, people should always come first but I think that they should be taken care of adequately by a social security system or obligatory foreign aid.

I think people should be free to make their own choices as to whether they do or do not give to charities and the choices they make are personal to them. There are some charities that I would not choose to support and others that I would freely choose to support because I believe in what they do and how they use the funds gifted to them.

My thoughts exactly

Giving to charity, or not, is a very personal choice and motivated by many different and sometimes complex emotional responses.  Peoples life experiences are so varied that what is right for one person will almost certainly be different for another and it may well depend upon the stage of life they are at.  I suspect that even if I wanted to I'd struggle to explain the weights and measures I might apply to conscious acts of charity versus slinging some loose change in the nearest bucket as I walk past!!

To be honest some of the people I've met through life makes me want to leave all my 2/6d to animal charity when I pop me paws!

Personally I would leave everything to animal charities, when my mum dies she left alot of money to animal charity's and the collection at her church service was donated to the PDSA, by her request.
Animals do more than humans could ever do!!

I can understand why people would give to wish to an animal charity because animals have it a bit rough at times and need our support but what do they do that humans don't?

they can be a source of unconditional love and effection, ready to please and offer comfort without judging you, they don't care if you're having a bad hair day or are struggling with your weight, or if you are severely disfigured, or lack 'social status', I think these are the reason some people find it much easier to give to an animal charity.
I personally prefer giving to animal charities (I do give to all types of charity), because on the whole it's voiceless animals that suffer due to mans unkindness. They can not stand up and fight for thier own rights (if a dog defended itself against it's owner it would most likely be destroyed for being agressive), they can't form self-help groups to offer support to thier own kind.

I think that would apply to many humans too, in fact, I think humans who are of that nature are probably less descrimate about who they offer that care to, animals being generally devoted exclusively to their owners.

My aunt is adamant that everything she has is going to cats and donkeys, she has always loved those animals and thats her choice. Good luck to her and the animals, her money her choice

Ive given to World Vision to sponser a child for 14 years Yobanaly is 16 next birthday! I give regulalrly to two dog charities. We also support/give to Children in Need. Thats about all, but it makes me feel better about our family that we give what we can to those charities that have touched our hearts.

Animal charities are always my 1st choice because they can't help themselves and are dependent on humans.

Of course, everyone has different opinions but it is better to give to any charity than not at all!

very true.

I think it is entirely up to the individual,  people should give to where/who they want and not be 'bullied' into thinking one charity is more deserving than the next.

this has been bothering me slightly.. I find the question itself quite cheeky.. even  impudent.. .. It is none of anyones business who or what is donated to ANY charity.. I wonder if that could be the reason many, if not most larger donations are .. Anonymous... ;-)

Asking about peoples views on various charities is another matter..but asking who we give to is personal.. and telling us who you feel we should give to is quite rude.. sorry.. just my opinion..

I'm with you here Kay - my opinion (unpublicised until now ;) is MYOBB!

i don't understand why anyone would be offended by the question.

No one is forced to reply and i took the question at face value.

It seems that some of the posters on this site are often suspicious of other peoples intentions.  or am i naive?

>i don't understand why anyone would be offended by the question.

It's quite simple - the original post made it quite clear that if you gave to animal charities instead of human charities you were, in his/her opinion, doing the wrong thing, which seems designed to cause upset.
- By wendy [gb] Date 06.11.08 20:21 UTC
the poster was just stating their own personal opinion.  nothing wrong with an opinion!

The above was what harvey123 wrote...

I take exception that he/she feel that I should give to people before animals..

thats not an opinion.. that is a statement...

What he/she feels ANYONE should do withTHEIR money, is quite uncalled for..

I dont want to feel that I should feel guilty or wrong IF I gave to animal charities before Humans..
