How does everyone wear their wedding and engagement rings? Engagement ring first and then wedding ring or wedding then engagement ring? I'll tell you why I am asking. I lost my beloved engagement ring a year ago and couldn't wear my wedding ring cause it was made to fit the other. Well Stewart got me a new wedding ring meant to double as both but now he wants to get an engagement ring too, he thinks it would look better before my wedding ring, is this weird, I suppose it's the traditional way isn't it. I know it's a boring question but is doing my head in him going on about it all the time :-D

Hi Sandra, the traditional way of wearing a wedding ring is wed ring first and engagement ring, or wedding, eternity and then engagement. The only time I have seen it worn the other way around is when someones engagement ring is too big so they put the wedding ring on afterwards to hold it on. :-D
But, you know it is down to personal preference, wear it all however you feel the most comfortable, your the one wearing it. :-)

I have never taken my wedding ring off so the engagement ring is always the second one on. I think that is what most people do.

To be purely practical, the wedding ring first and then the engagement ring that will contains stone and require removal for safety when performing certain tasks. Mind you these days some people have stone in their wedding ring too but I guess most still have a simple band.

Traditionally the woman removed her engagement ring when she entered the church for her marriage, so afterwards the wedding ring would be the first ring with the engagement ring put on again afterwards.
Sandra, slightly off topic...
My original engagement ring, which was antique to start with, had been rubbing on my wedding ring for years and the stone setting was looking dangerously thin and the band was getting a sharpish edge on it. Over the years my husband had bought me several rings for my other hand which I'd change according to outfit etc but then found I was using them instead of my engagement ring because I was worried about it. In the meantime I'd once had to have my wedding ring cut off when I shut my hand in the door and my fingers were swollen. That meant that when the ring was repaired some of the inscription had been lost.
For our 21st wedding anniversary we took the plunge and had some of this collection of important and sentimental jewellery smelted (?) and remade into a new set of rings. I now have 5 thin bands, 2 plain and 3 with stones that I can wear how I wish, although I always keep one of the plain bands on at all times even when swapping the other bits around. I tend to wear two plain bands side by side as my wedding ring then just add the extra stones when I want to. My husband used his wedding ring and some of my spare gold to make a bigger ring in a flatter shape to match my bands.
Anyway, long story short we are delighted with them and have never regretted it. My OH bought me a new sapphire for the anniversary too but I still have all the other stones that were removed from my other bits of jewellery and a bit of leftover gold which I intend to have made into something for our daughter on her 18th perhaps.
You can use your original wedding ring to help create your new engagement ring. It helps a little with the cost but more importantly maintains the link to your wedding day. Our man is in the south west but plenty of jewellers do this sort of service. Try and get a good craftsman/artisan if you can.
Sorry it's a bit long but hope it might be useful xx :)

Iwear my engagement ring first then wedding ring then eternity. My wedding ring has been cut so the shape of the engagement ring fits within it.

I wore my engagement ring pinned to my wedding dress when I got married ( so it came to the church as well :-D )
I put it back on later in the day so that my wedding ring could have its moment of glory alone for a while :), wedding ring first, engagement second.
( soppy sausage, me!! )
My eternity ring, I wear on a chain around my neck as it feels
really uncomfortable!
I wear my wedding ring and then my engagement ring.

I wear my wedding ring, eternity ring and then engagement ring. My wedding ring belonged to my husbands granddad who sadly was murdered so it meant a lot for me to have the ring. Slightly morbid in some peoples eyes but husband was keen for me to wear it, he used to wear it previous.
Its wedding ring, then engagement ring. We got married in July and the vicar told me to take my engagement ring off before i got to the church, cant remember why now!

A jewller recently told me that tradionally you where the wedding ring first as it was considered bad luck to remove your wedding ring and you may remove your engagement ring to prevent it getting damaged.
I love the idea of making a set of rings to change about to suit from other jewllery.

I have engagement ring first since that was on my finger first cause thats the ring he put on when he asked me to marry him then my wedding band since he put that on my finger when we said I Do. My wedding band I had made and it fits into my engagement ring- then I had the 2 sotered together cause they would move in oposite directions lol
My hubby never bought a wedding set he bought the engagement and never thought about the wedding band lol Worked out for me cause mine was especially made to match my ring.
Aaaaaaaaaw this kinda sums it up why it would be the other way then how I wear mine :-)
