We are importing a dog from Finland in the new year (fingers crossed :) :) ), can anybody tell me what we need to do ie paperwork etc.
I know that the Kennel Club need an application for registering an imported dog prior to its arrival but thats about the sum total of our knowledge.

Hi Herbiedax, We too are importing from Finland next year. If you go to the D.E.F.R.A. site, and e mail them, they will send you all you need to know.

Thanks for the advice, have emailed DEFRA. What dog are you importing from Finland and have you been out to visit the dog Philipa?
We went out in July to visit the wee man when he was 4 months old, thankfully the breeders are good enough to send us photos on a monthly basis so we can see him progress. We were toying with the idea of going out again before he comes across but time passes so fast.

Hi again, We are importing three Schapendoes(two bitches and a dog) We havent been to visit yet as only one is born so far :) However, we have been sent photos of the little girl, and have been promised videos of the others when they arrive. What are you getting?

We are getting a miniature wirehaired dachshund. They also breed mini longs and standard wires and wouldn't mind one of each to add to our brood, but until we get a bigger house we will have to stick with what we have for the time being.

We brought a dog in from Finland in July this year. You dont need to register the dog with the K.C before you bring it over, but you do need a certified pedigree. You can mail me privatley if you need to know what paperwork you need.

Hi Chris, it depends if you want to show it straight away - then you either need to have registered with the KC so you ca meet the date entries close (even if this is before it comes in)_ or enter it with an ATC number.

Hi, it looks like it will be early next year. We were trying to get out to see him a couple of weeks ago, but couldnt get flights for the weekend at short notice. Seem to be doing almost full time dog moving around at the moment - bitch just back innto the UK from mating in the USA, dog to ship to Sweden next week, and Pug going to Malta at the end of the month - I am now on first name terms with the airline cargo people!

After all the hype for importing our boy from Finland, we learnt from the breeder yesterday that they think he is too small for the UK show circuit, and that there is a problem with his teeth so that's that!! another body blow :( still better finding out now, then finding out when his over here
