Hi
The VDS is a company used by vets to give legal advise on cases, ranging from complaints to unfair dismissal (i think vets pay a monthly fee ?)
It is a form of professional insurance, in case you are sued. Like that held by doctors, and physios like me. I believe it may be compulsory to have this to practise vet medicine.

The veterinary defence society exist to provide legal advice support and representation to vets in the uk - to the best of my knowledge - have had some dealings with them re a negligence case.
Hope this helps
