Hi my dog was mated at the beginning of October & she is now on day 25 & she had clear sick yesterday & this morning I came down to thick red blood. My dog seems very happy in herself and is eating.

I am really concerned for her. The vet has given her antibiotics but didn't really say that the problem was, I asked if she had miscarried and he said it is very difficult to establish whether she has or not.

Thanks

my girl had similar to yours but her discharge was every day.......brownish/red and quite thick with no smell at about 2 weeks from mating. she was also sick every morning.  vet put her on abs from day 21 and she gave birth to 6 gorgeous pups last week - very quick birth....4 hours from the start and a complete self-whelp which is quite unusual for our breed particularly a maiden bitch.

vet said she may have absorbed a pup at the outset when she had her first 'show' and insisted on 2 scans to ensure heartbeats etc.  the discharge eased off 2 weeks before giving birth.

i hope your girl has a happy outcome.  all the best..........its a really worrying time and you feel so helpless.

Something similar happened with a Friends bitch who showed early signs of being in whelp and vet thought he could feel two pups, and she went onto not have any pups so seems they were expelled or absorbed.

Thank you so much pixieell for your message, it's reasuring to hear your experience and happy outcome. She's not shown any more symptons and she's been very perky today. I am going back to the vet's tomorrow, so finger's crossed that it will be positive news.

Thanks

you're welcome milliemoo.......please keep me posted on the outcome.  our last pup born is not doing too good at the mo'........vet says all her vitals sound healthy enough but she not gaining weight despite me supplementing feeds.......on vets advice..........all the others so big and healthy makes her look quite pathetic..........will just keep trying.

I hope that your little puppy is starting to put some weight on bless the little pup.

My vet has given my girl another antibiotic shot & asked to see her again next week. He thinks that due to the breed it could be something that she has eaten which has made her ill, especially as her sister is unwell and suffering from the similiar symptons and she has not been mated.

Thanks

sorry to tell you that our little one lost her fight for life despite all our efforts and it was really strange because on the day she died her Mum would not clean her and to try to place her on her teat was a real struggle she really didnt want to know.  she obviously knew a lot more than we did........she just went in her sleep at the end it was very peaceful but needless to say i broke my heart!
