What's the KC name...maybe you can make something out of that?
- By Dogz Date 28.10.08 20:17 UTC
Now....as no doubt all our Scots on here will let you know...........Rod is an Essex boy, my pal at work pointed that out to me when I made the same reference, (she's from Ayr).

Karen ;)
- By newf3 [gb] Date 28.10.08 21:20 UTC
what's her kennel name?
maybe you can take something from that.

I have a frenid who's dogs name was music spinner so she called him dee jay.
- By Teri Date 28.10.08 21:26 UTC
I prefer where possible to use part of their registration name or make an association with with a parents name or theme from their registration name :)

Failing that THIS SITE has quite literally thousands of names - I'd be willing to bet there will be something on there that meets your approval :)

regards, Teri
- By Lea Date 28.10.08 21:32 UTC
Maybe wait until she arrives. Quite often a name hits you from the personality of the pup :):)
Did you ever get the papers from your other puppy earlier in the year???? I remeber you and someone else having major problems getting the papers after weeks of having the puppy.
(Sorry If I have got you mixed up with someone else)
Lea :):)

Wasn't it the Rolling Stones who sung that?
- By Goldmali Date 28.10.08 21:44 UTC

Ah, sorry to hijack a bit here -Teri or anyone, help me out here! OH and I can't agree on a pet name for our pup. Her registered name is CRASH BOOM BANG! (Song title as usual.) I wanted to call her Bambi (they DO look like Bambis, don't you think?) but he says he will NOT have a dog called Bambi. He has no taste, what can I say..... Pup is now 7 weeks and I need a name!!
- By Lea Date 28.10.08 21:52 UTC
Rocky, although maybe not for a girl!!!!
Cathrine - Boom bang- fireworks - catherine wheel
Candy - after Roman Candle forework
Sparkle - Sparklers
Fern instead of bambi as deer live in ferns

Sorry all bad ideas, but might get the theme LOL
Lea :)

Hi again Marianne

just double-checked on mum and dad's names - how about a name which 'says' she's off one of them?  so working with Believe you could have faith, honour,  etc or Esprit have Lotus or another feminine sounding car name :)

pssst. don't tell your OH but I don't fancy Bambi either ..... but I do like disney characters so, in view of her KC name, how about Thumper ..... ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 28.10.08 22:34 UTC

>OH and I can't agree on a pet name for our pup. Her registered name is CRASH BOOM BANG!

Lulu. Because Lulu sang 'Boom bang-a-bang' in the Eurovision Song Contest back when the world was black and white.

  Hi  thompson1
is this dog scottish too? call her Callie for caledonia the old name for Scotland I think ?You could spell it Callie or cally , Calli like this name as that is my big girls name. Her KC name is Sorrento Scorch but could not think up a name from that and had decided an a couple of other names but she looked like a Callie . I think when you get her a name will just come to you.
Lovley dogs Newfies but they are big !!! have one who comes in to me to be groomed and if I do something he dosent like he just puts his paw on me head and pushes my down, Big gentle giant he is but a bit of a coward .
- By Teri Date 28.10.08 22:55 UTC
Hi again Thomson1

If you want to go with a female Scottish theme (I don't know if you do of course!) How about Murran - William Wallace's murdered bride in Braveheart
or perhaps go back to the Newfoundland breed's roots and pick something appropriate from an area there :)

Try HERE for inspiration!
- By Goldmali Date 28.10.08 23:05 UTC
Oh thanks all -lots to think about there except Thumper!!! ;)!! I quite like Lotus.......
- By huskypup [us] Date 29.10.08 13:39 UTC
As you are both getting your pups at this time of year how about 'Autumn'?  Or on another seasonal theme: 'Pumpkin' or 'Cracker'.  :)
- By AliceC Date 29.10.08 14:45 UTC
Marianne, I like the name 'Elise', that's a type of Lotus and quite a nice girlie name. I like Bambi though !!
- By Mini [gb] Date 29.10.08 15:04 UTC
what about Roxie for Crash Boom Bang
- By Mini [gb] Date 29.10.08 15:07 UTC
If she's scottis too, what about Peggy?

Scotch Peggy (Scotch Egg)

Maggie May and Peggy?
- By Goldmali Date 29.10.08 15:12 UTC
You know Mini, you're so right - late last night it hit me. The mother, Rio, is named after two songs -Duran Duran's "Rio" and her pedigree name is Cher's "Believe". "Crash Boom Bang" is of course by Roxette, so wasn't the logical thing to call the pup Roxette, maybe with Roxie/Roxy as a short version? Mentioned it to hubby and he said "Oh name her Bambi if you must!" which I took to mean he thought Roxie was even worse LOL, but I've been thinking of it ever since. Roxette or Roxie -why not? Starts with R as well, most (all but one) of my dogs of this breed have had pet names starting with an R even though that was not intentional. I like it!
- By Mini [gb] Date 29.10.08 15:50 UTC
I think it sits well, Roxie, but Roxette on sundays!

Roxie worse than Bambi?  Never!  I met somebody the other day who had two male dogs, one called Bambi, the other Teddy Boo.  I had to bite the inside of my mouth to stop myslef laughing!
- By Thompson1 [gb] Date 29.10.08 16:27 UTC
Thanks guys, Where still fighting over names my partner wants to call her Dakota (dont know why) or Chanti (after our best friend chantelle who just left to go to South Africa to live) but I aint keen on them  I liked Yasmin (yazz for short), brodie and Isla after our friend whos quite a famous singer (Isla grant) and my partner said no ha ha
- By tooolz Date 29.10.08 16:53 UTC

> Chanti

A fine old Scottish name for a chamber pot !!   Although usually spelt Chanty I believe.
- By dexter [gb] Date 29.10.08 16:53 UTC

> one called Bambi, the other Teddy Boo.  I had to bite the inside of my mouth to stop myslef laughing!

LOL :-p
- By Thompson1 [gb] Date 29.10.08 17:18 UTC
sorry just to add this one aint scottish lol
- By suejaw Date 29.10.08 19:26 UTC
Just wanted to say how much i love Landseer Newfs. From what i have heard they aren't very common. Think like the blue merle in a border collie.

I would go with a theme whether you work with the kennel name or something which works alongside your other Newf.

I know someone who works along the names of horror movie characters for her dogs.
- By munrogirl76 Date 29.10.08 20:57 UTC

> Her registered name is CRASH BOOM BANG!

That would make me suggest Wallop but it's not a very good name for a dog really.

Chaos, Thunder, Lightning, or what about Roxy for Roxette. ;-)
- By Thompson1 [gb] Date 29.10.08 21:12 UTC
Right we got a short list, everyone I have spoke to so far things were totally mad.  Olive, Winnie, Martha, Elsie and Wilma :-)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.10.08 21:51 UTC
What about ship names
- By suejaw Date 29.10.08 21:54 UTC
I have to like the name enough and not be embarressed about it when shouting out for the dog to come when there are lots of people about.
- By newfiedreams Date 30.10.08 20:52 UTC
Landseer dogs are quite common...8-)
- By Dogz Date 30.10.08 20:53 UTC
Wilma....love it, in fact I love all the list....goood luck!

Karen ;)
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 30.10.08 21:28 UTC
Edwina - after Edwin Landseer - Edie for short  or Luath which was J.M. Barrie's Landseer's name apparently and Nana in Peter Pan wassupposed to be a Landseer not a St Bernard :-D
- By newfiedreams Date 31.10.08 11:33 UTC
Landseers and WHITE and black(markings) not BLACK and white
- By Teri Date 31.10.08 11:40 UTC
Let's hope the OP finds that especially helpful in naming the puppy!
(maybe try exiting the other side of the bed ;) )
- By newfiedreams Date 31.10.08 12:52 UTC
Not wrong side of bed at all...just a grumpy old cow generally! I just wonder why people bother when a) had so much trouble with the first pup and b)doesn't know a Landseer is white with black markings!

Usually a lot of cases where owners don't know what they're doing, end up with people like me picking up the pieces in rescue or welfare!

Anyways, I have it on good authority that I am ALLOWED to be grumpy today!
- By Thompson1 [gb] Date 31.10.08 18:33 UTC
thanks everyone (and terry) we have now got her home, and changed name completely to Bella.

Just in case I have offened any one I would like to confirm that the KC breed standard description does say, Landseer: white with black markings only. For preference black head with narrow blaze, evenly marked saddle, black rump extending to tail. Beauty in markings to be taken greatly into consideration. Ticking undesirable. However many a breeder and also many websites such as Wilipedia, simply say balck and white.  I thought this may be useful if anyone has taken what I said in original post.

I would also like to add that the problems with my other dog, where due to the registration papers not being and the breeders personal problems, not the dog, and certainly not my care of the dog!.  I must also say I have never! had a dog put in recue and would never dream of it.  And I bother because I love my animals and care for them deeply.

Thanks everyone else for your help in helping us pick a name

:-)
- By Teri Date 31.10.08 22:57 UTC
Good luck with Bella :)  I hope she brings you much joy!
