Hi, just wondering whether anyone could recommend a good vitamin supplement wth calcium included.  It also needs to be wheat, maize (corn) free.  I have 3 dogs which I have started making homemade food for and need to start adding vitamins. One of my dogs is a puppy of 4 1/2 months.  They are all Shih tzus.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

Might be a good thing to read up on exactly what vits your dogs need, if you are feeding a raw diet then usually no extra calcium is necessary in fact adding it could cause problems.

I'm not sure from your post if your homemade food is raw or cooked, so if it isn't raw then disregard this.  If it is a raw diet, then you could add vit e, vit c, brewers yeast, flax seed oil, kelp.  You need to get the right amounts, and worth investing in a Ian Billinghurst book on raw feeding.

Hi Tracey

don't take this the wrong way but IMO it's better that you research your specific breed's needs first - some breeds need more, less (or no!) specific types of food and food groups.  I'm all for feeding raw and home prepared diets but only when all the necessary homework has been done and the info you've given is a bit too vague to comment on.

Why not ask others within your breed who feed non commercial diets what they use and also join the Britbarf Yahoo group - there's lots of useful info and advice available there and I'm sure you'll feel more confident if armed with as much detail in advance rather than cherry picking vits and minerals that may be useful/appropriate to supplement with but equally may not

HTH, Teri :)
