I've seen these in PAH. They are supposedly minerals (look like a rock) that you put in the dogs water bowl and it is supposed to reduce lawn burn. Has anybody tried them? Do they work? Are they safe? I like the idea but want to check they are safe to use first!

Well my vet uses them for her dog, so she must think they are safe. They work too.

Thanks for the quick reply! Thats reassuring, we have not long put turf down in our back garden and a few brown patches have started appearing so we have been looking into them. If it risked my dogs health though I would most definately prefer the brown patches but if nobody has had any probs with them I will get myself down to PAH tomorrow.

I'm sure they've been safety tested through the roof, but I just don't like the idea of putting anything in my dog's food or water that isn't specifically for their own good. I would rather put up with the brown patches or keep the dog off the lawn rather than find out in five years time that it has massive kidney stones or something from the minerals passing through its system.

I tried sulphur rocks at least I think it was sulphur it was ages age. Supposed to b cooling in the summer for the dogs she just ate them up.! I think keeping the dog of the lawn or train to one area is probably better.

We have this lush green verdant grass and just round the corner on our lovely lawn is the biggest patches of the most brown grass you will ever see! lol

No thanks. Anything that messes around with the pH of my dog's urine is undesirable for me. I'd be too worried about stone formation or other problems.

I've never used them and wouldn't consider anything like that as I don't want to mess with my dogs intake for the sake of the lawn.
I'm lucky though, I don't get brown patches of grass - I get big bald patches of mud as Buster has now perfected the after-poop 'scrat' and sends chunks of grass & earth flying LOL

A small amount of tomatoe juice in their water, stops brown patches on the lawn.  With no ill effects to the animal.

Years ago when we had our first dog an ESS,and I mean years ago my Mum used to put a lump of rock sulpha in Bess's drinking water bowl and she said it stopped them overheating in the hot weather.I believe its volcanic rock.Bess lived to be 17 years old,so it didn't do her any harm.My daughter is studying to be a homeopathic practioner,and I believe sulpher is like a purifier of the system. I dont think its harmful.

They do say that, but they also have a disclaimer in the pack saying they are not responsible for any ill effects your dog suffers.

I did buy some after a few 'doggy' people reccomended them. I popped them int he water bowl and 30 minutes later went back int he kitchen to find them gone! Cue me getting in a right panic thinking one of the dogs must have decided to eat them, running around the garden trying to decide if various rocks and stones were the dog rocks or just gardne stones and rocks. I couldn't find them and after a feel of each dopgs tummy was none the wiser, so I started ot prepare myself for a vet visit, thinking they would all need ot be x-rayed.

Then I had a thought.... so I asked my 7 year old son if he had taken anythign out of the dogs water bowl. To which he replied 'Yes, the dogs put some stones in there, so I took them out and put them in the bin'. Bless him!

Obviously absolute relief, but it scared me so much, I just left them in the bin.
