I have bathed Poppy tonight ready for her show tomorrow. She is a Golden and her coat is quite wavy/curly so if we are nto careful a bath gives her the 'bog brush' effect. I have intended to get a drying coat, but couldn't afford it till next month really and we haven't manage dot get her used tot he hairdrier yet, although we are getting there....

SO, she is currently sporting a home-made drying coat made from the leg of a pair of fishnet tights..... It looks like it'll work, but she doe slook a bit silly for now, bless her!

Before Dry-coats there were net curtains :-)
Tightly draped over and dried through, use to be the method many used.

Lol! My friend had her male dog in tights before a show. He won his stud book number that day, so they do work ;-)

Never thought about nets. I've got loads in the airing cupboard now that I daren't use them on the windows. :-)

Caoimhe is starting to go wavy (oh thanks dad ;-)) I have one of these for after baths in the winter. They get the dogs dry quite quickly and I discovered, they do a pretty good job of flattening the coat too. I have a dry coat but when I went to put it on before her last show her coat was already flat. Get one a bit longer than her back so it flattens the bum area too and you'll have a dual-duty coat. They love their robes on cold winter days after a swim. :) They're pretty dry in around 30 minutes.

Thankyou!

Well, what a waste of time, it was raining on the way into the show so she got wet and although I managed some 'damage limitation' she didn't look as good as she did this morning. Oh well...

I will try those coats Lori, they look really good. They can't come back from any walk dry, even on a sunny day, so it'll come in handy at other times than shows too. Thanks! Madam  has a very wavy/curly coat, especially around the base of her tail, and the judge today commented it was a bit too low set. I'm inclined to agree with him, but I do think her coat makes it look worse than it is. That along with the fact she was still nervous today and didn't carry it as well as she can.... She was enjoying it much more by the end though, thank goodness!

Are gas powered straightening irons not allowed ringside? :)
(Just a thought!)

I put my boy in tights and his famous batman cape after a bath!.. He does look a picture, I have to give him something to chew or else he spends his time playing with it! I usually leave it on over night which flattens it a bit too much but then a sprinkle of water (or rain usually) makes it look just lovely!

Have never shown a dog but would have thought straighteners would be far too risky for use on a dog. Seriously hot straighteners and any dog would be a recipe for disaster I would have thought :(

I have to admit, straightening irons had occurred to me, especially for her tail. However, I know someone who used them on her horses tail and it melted it.

I was thinking about using straighteners but im sure its against KC rules!

I was joking about the straighteners!

I've sometimes wondered about irons (just kidding, but the fluffy ringlets my boy gets on his bum drive me mad - I would love to iron them flat!!) :-D

Joking aside,
I saw someone using electric straighteners on a dog ringside at Midland Counties (not my breed)
